July 7, 200421 yr For the first time in a Decade the Sox are in post season play after Finishing first (94-68) 8 games ahead of Texas in the AL west. Once again the Hitting star was Frank Thomas (.317) who hit 41 homers while driving in 128 runs, Third Baseman Robin Ventura put up another solid season hitting .262, clubbing 28 homers and driving in 95 runs. Right Fielder Ellis Burks made somewhat of a comeback after off years with Boston, Burks hit .275 with 17 homers and 74 batted in. Lance Johnson (.311) led the league in triples again with 14, Designated Hitter George Bell was injured and only hit .217. Shortstop Ozzie Guillen made a nice comeback after missing all but 20 games of last season hitting .280. Another Remarkable comeback was that of former Royal and Football star Bo Jackson after Hip surgery Bo hit .232 and smacked 16 homers in only 238 at bats, and his homer against Seattle was the division Clincher. On the Mound Jack Mcdowell Won the Cy Young award going 22-10 with a 3.37 ERA with 4 shutouts. Young Righty Alex Fernandez was 18-9 and had a 3.17 ERA and led the team in strikeouts with 169, Lefty Wilson Alvarez (15-8) led the team with a 2.98 ERA. Rookie Jason Bere came up in May and after losing his first start against Kansas City pitched Well and finished 12-5. Out of the bullpen Roberto Hernandez took over the closers Role and had 38 saves and lefty Scott Radinsky had 8 wins and 4 saves. Attendance was a strong 2,581,091 for 3rd best in the League. After the season Frank Thomas was named League MVP and 2nd year manager Gene LaMont named Manager of the year. But regretfully the Sox lost in the playoffs to the Blue Jays 4 games to 2.

Bo Hit that ball so high and Mike Blowers starting going back at it at third base and all of a sudden Griffey and Briley i think it was were at the wall. July 7, 200421 yr That was a tremendous year. Man, did we have some serious pitching. The playoffs did suck. Lose 2, win 2, then lose the last 2. I was so excited about the upcoming 94 season. Little did we know that season would be shamefully wiped out :puke

July 8, 200421 yr That was a memorable year for me, right up there with 2000. Sad thing is we have to wait 7 years to have a successful season.
