and only 1 player who made the overall all stars in the whole minor league.

Joe Valentine, rp, Birmingham (White Sox)

No minor leaguer saved more games in 2002 than Valentine, who had 36 to tie the Southern League record set just last year. But unlike past minor league saves leaders such as Jackson Markert (2001), J.J. Trujillo (2000), Jason Ellison (1999), Brent Stentz (’98) and Armando Almanza (’97)–just to name a few of recent vintage–Valentine might be onto something. He held opponents to a .173 batting average with a mid-90s fastball and hard slider. Now let’s see if he can break out of the minor league closer trend

Valentine was a virtual nobody going into this year. I'm almost positive he was picked up off waivers, and was dominant as hell. When I'd write the recaps, I'd see his name come up day after day. He was really durable and had he struck out more batters than innings pitched which is always impressive.

BTW era was 1.97 4-1 record

I thought Valentine was the Sox's before the year started, was lost to Detroit in the Rule V draft, but since the Tigers didn't keep him on their roster, he was sent back to the Sox.

He's a remarkable story, either way. However, before we start praising him as a Messiah, remember minor league closers have a tendency to be nothing at the big league level.

I don't think that anyone here is ready to hand him the keys to the ferrari. but they could be handing him the keys to the ford if that makes sense

Anybody know anything about this kid? I've heard his name thrown around before, but I don't know too much about him.

Can maul the ball. Needs to imrpove plate coverage, though.
