I've always found fWAR bizarre for 1B, but you can still try and get Hosmer's value by looking at 1) his relative WAR performance or 2) ignoring defensive metrics and focusing on something like wRC+ or wOBA. In both scenarios Hosmer is really, really bad. Given his contract he's arguably one of the worst players in all of baseball.
