That's because you only have corn fields, and they have 10,000 lakes that freeze over when it's colder then a witches tit in the middle of winter. What else are they supposed to do, eh?

Minnesota guys! I am up here and everyone is saying "When is it going to freeze?" I hate hockey and 2/3 of the local channels show the Minnesota Wild games. Winter is when I avoid local channels.

Texas has 12, count them 12, professional hockey teams. Ranking them ahead of every state and canadian province.

 

The attendance figure ranked fourth in the CHL, beating several large markets including Indianapolis, Fort Worth and Memphis, and fourth amongst the 12 professional hockey teams in Texas (Texas has more professional hockey teams than any other state or Canadian province), finishing behind Dallas, Laredo and Houston.

San Antonio

A state that big has to have some hockey teams, i'm not surprised they have a good amount of pro teams. It's like a friggin country.

Actually a few universities in Texas have teams and the University of Texas - Austin was ranked in the top 20 last season. Div. 3 Baylor, A&M, Tech, and a few others have teams.

 

But you are correct, Texas is better in football and baseball.

The lead sports story on the local news is always HS football. The local sports radio talk show will be 90% HS sports. Fans know the names and tendencies of all the top HS players. McAllen High School's stadium seats 5,000 and it sells out.

One local radio station hires 26 stringers to cover all the Rio Grande Valley games. It is truly amazing.
