Hawk should stop.....

Hawk harping on Valdez dropping the ball costing the Sox 6 runs is silly. There's no way you can blame that dropped ball on all six runs, I personally blame Jose and his walks and hit batsmen.

There is no arguing that if he makes that play, the Sox are out of the inning with only one run in. It is a pretty direct link IMO. I'm not one for blame, but Hawk speaks the truth. Granted Contreras didn't help himself at all, but it shouldn't have gotten to that point.

Hmmmm ... Do we now have a Judy Contreras?

Hmmmm ... Do we now have a Judy Contreras?

Defintately. We saw exactly why NYY was eager to get rid of Jose, even for a washed up Loiaza. Contreras is a mental case no doubt. That being said, if he is going to be saved, being in a latin clubhouse, with a latin manager is the best chance there will be to do it.

Hawk is a tool. Has been, in my eyes, since he tried to put a good spin on '97's "White Flag" Trade.

Even if we do, he was still worth Loaiza

Just like I've said about Garland, you need to be able to pitch over mistakes. Contreras didn't do that yesterday. The dropped ball by Valdez did hurt, but what hurt even more was throwing a 3-2 splitter to Blalock, who held off and took a base on balls. Jose fell apart after that. Hawk did seem highly pissed due to that play.........

though he did perk up when ARNIE MUNOZ! took the hill.

I don't really mind Hawk talking about it, he probably thinks we still have a shot at the division and playing some guy like that is kinda quitting on the year though.

Ever since this trade went down, for some reason it has become a 'let's see who screwed who the worst' contest. I think we won, Loaiza was supposed to produce immediately. Contreras will be fine, he just needs some time with Coop and Ozzie, he'll be ready by April. Who knows, even Loaiza might get it together, although it might not be with the Bankees.

I also felt Hawk was harping too much on the Valdez play. I didn't see it at the time, only on a replay [and it looked like Valdez got there too late, as if expecting Crede to throw to first--which was probably the best play]. But Hawk mentioned it like 6 times during the inning as THE reason why the runs scored. I thought Contreras' could have pitched over it if he didn't suffer a complete meltdown like he did. Isn't that what a 30+ yr old pitcher should do, pick up a young guy after a mistake

Hawk sounded like he had it in for Valdez. He also mentioned that Valdez was a rookie making his major league debut at 2B not his normal position [like a dig at Ozzie], as if no rookies should be playing becuase the sox vets would give them the best chance to win. Maybe Hawk didn't notice but two rookies helped the sox win the previous two games. But Hawks digs at Valdez and him being pretty quiet about Contreras' meltdown seemed strange.

I'm sorry to tell Hawk but this isn't exactly the stretch run. Valdez playing instead of Jose wasn't the cause of the Sox loss. Contreras unability to find the strike zone was though.

You wouldn't be the type to hold a grudge, would you?

I thought the same thing till Hawk started his, "..... this is a good thing for the future of the Organization..... we reloaded the minors with quality prospects..... that will bring us many years of sustained winning baseball and keep us in future playoff contention..... " blah, blAH, BLAH!!!!!

You wouldn't be the type to hold a grudge, would you?

Nope..... although it's hard to forget the annual figurative ass-reaming at the hands of this Organization over the past 20+ seasons.
