September 13, 200421 yr My sister and I set the date for taking my nephew apple picking and making a pumpkin patch along the way or back. I found a good site listing apple orchards around the state: Applicious! I was also tickled pink that I found the orchard on there that I went to about 10 years ago (or so). It was a wonderful little orchard with very pleasant people who owned/farmed it. Shocked to find it, much less on the web. On the corner from there is a farm stand (in a house on that farm) that has some of the most wonderful spices, honey, pumpkins and fall decorations. Fall.....YES!
September 13, 200421 yr We usually go. We have quite a few orchards really close to our house. Brings back the childhood memories of throwing apples at my little brother
September 13, 200421 yr Not necessarily an apple picker, but I believe the annual Johnny Appleseed festival is being held this weekend in Fort Wayne. It'll be probably one of the first times I haven't gone. It's a good little time.
September 13, 200421 yr I helped out a family friend at their orchard when I was in High School. This year I will be picking oranges from my trees in the backyard. Texas citrus growers are walking a fine line between sorrow for the damage in Florida and for all the grapefruit they can sell on the east coast. Get ready for higher prices both deserved (more expensive to ship) and market conditions. Not enough oranges and grapefruit to fill demand. And why are carrots more orange than oranges?
September 13, 200421 yr Sometimes we'll go up to Gays Mills, Wisconsin to get apples, apple butter and cheese.
September 13, 200421 yr I pick mine at Jewel. MUCH easier, no trees or bushels, they're right there in a display case and they provide handy plastic bags to place the apples in. YAY!

Besides after kids go throw the apples at your house, you'll just be able to walk outside and pick them up off of the lawn
