ILLINI FOOTBALL RECORD 2003-PRESENT

2-0 VS I-AA

0-12 VS I-A

i want honest predictions from illinois fans. in all reality, I don't know what to think about WMU after that embarassment in blacksburg. wmu has been pounded soundly in the past, but never to the tune of 63-0. christ, the VT teams we played in the past four years were much better (as in highly ranked), but you can't ignore 63 points.

we won't find out the full story on injuries until later this week. we're playing the quarterback shuffle right now between two unproven quarterbacks, one coming off a bad shoulder and one who had to leave the VT game after taking a big lick. not good. our secondary is horrible and our defense up the middle is not good at best.

but i really don't know what to think about the broncos because they have played two games that aren't a true barometer of how good they really are: a 42-0 win over 1-AA doormat tennessee-martin and VT, always one of the most solid teams in the nation. VT might not always compete for the national championship, but they easily take care of lesser quality opponents because of fundamentals, defense, and special teams play. I would say we are at square-one for this weekend. no one in kalamazoo really knows what to think until later this week.

hopefully we've escaped blacksburg with minimal injuries. i understand scheduling non-winnable games against teams like VT, but we've got to start making more than $175k if we are going to lose 63-0.

as for illinois: just look at the above picture, what a joke. correct me if i'm wrong, but they started wearing those last season. coincidence? absolutely not.

Illinois vs. WMU Preview

I don't know a lot about WMU, but I'm gonna say it'll be a close game. 10 point win for Illinois.

Oh, and Illinois wore those jerseys one time last year. They have worn them both games so far this year. I like them better than the blue ones.

why is that? christ, syracuse JUST started wearing their hideous orange uniforms and they have had the word ORANGE in their nickname for over 100 years. tennessee's orange uni's i have no problem with, but if they wore orange helmets and pants as well, i'd have a big issue with that.

i am a true traditionalist when it comes to sports uniforms, hell i don't even mind teal if used correctly, but the stupid decision making by some people in college athletics just to sell jerseys is unbelievable.

let's just go through this logically:

why would a school change their uniform colors?

a) for the hell of it

B) to improve on already bad looking uniforms (like the former brown/gold wmu jerseys)

c) to make more money of merchandising

well, while pro teams may drastically change colors for the hell of it, 99.99% of colleges with decent athletic tradition don't do that because it is their SCHOOL COLORS. so that eliminates A. the former illinois blue jersey style wasn't horrible, in fact, it should remind you of the simeon rice era at illinois, rather than accent the fact that the team is completely s***, which is what they are doing by just deciding in recent years to start wearing orange uniforms at home. horrible, so B isn't the answer either.

so that leaves C as the only viable answer, they are bludgeoning tradition for the sake of making a couple extra bucks.

:rolly

The main color is orange. Blue and white are secondary. You can complain that the jerseys are ugly, but to rant about how theyre f***in sacriligious because OMG TEH TRADISHUN!!!1 is unnecessary.

ignoring the whole stupid ass jersey discussion.

I'd say illinois wins a close one this week against WMU, loses to purdue, wisoncisn, mich. state, mich, minessota, iowa....then comes back and beats indiana and northwestern.

What an optimist I am :rolly

Dude just shut up.. Its a f***in uniform.. I dont care what they are wearing or what color it is, I care about the way they play which as of late has been terrible

sorry, i just melted for a second. i think i'm going to run for office in michigan on that platform, actually.

First off, the orange jerseys aren't for money. It's because one of our slogans is "think orange, wear orange". It's a very distinguishable color and the main color of the school. Ever since bball it's been a real big thing. Your bias on that one is unbelievable.

Second off, if Beutjer plays we'll win pretty easy, if he's out and we have to go with Bower it could be a closer game. I don't see us losing this game.

Keep talking obstacle. You're incoherent jersey rants are quite entertaining. Also, your constant bashing of Illinois football is comical too, because your program (nor your whole athletic program) is not nearly as good as ours, and hasn't been.

Forgive him he's just ignorant.

who gives a s*** what color our jerseys are?

Nobody knows my cousin starts for U of I football. :D

They suck.

They suck.

They will rise again I hope. I love Big Ten football except for the Golphers I hate that team

Could you please repeat your lecture for all of us about ripping on teams that are worse than yours? Thanks.

hey we have to beat a non I-AA team this year otherwise Ron Turner truly is the most worthless coach ever

check my first post before you start flapping your gums, i didn't once rip on illinois football as being inferior to western, i just made a flippant statement on how i hated the orange jerseys. in all my previous posts about UI, it pretty much came down to the battle of attricion, never once did i get on a platform and declare "UIUC is pathetic, WMU will kick the s*** out of them easily." correct me if i'm wrong.

thanks for the update on why they wear the new unis, still stupid. i know the basketball team has been wearing orange for a long time, and i don't mind. they look sharp.

on the other hand, the football uniforms look horrible. some things are just better left alone.

yes, wmu sucks, but UI is just as bad, and this weekend's game is absolutely HUGE for both teams. UI has a great chance to finally win a game against a 1-A opponent , while WMU is obviously shooting for the goal of beating a BCS conference team and a rebound from a severe beating at the hands of VT. both teams have high expectations for saturday. i can't wait to be there.

news from today is that baggett is not going to start this weekend, it'll be rutgers transfer ryan cubit, who missed the TN-martin game because of a sour shoulder.

also, what ozzie should have said to buck: "f*** YOU"

Could you please repeat your lecture for all of us about ripping on teams that are worse than yours? Thanks.

If you are a fair weather fan of a powerhouse team, then yes

When i'm a fan of Illinois, no

What a dumb post there Spiff, go root for your powerhouses and stay out of this thread.

Obstacle you've just been just ridiculously obsessed with the orange uniforms and using that for a basis to rip on Illinois. It's just stupid. If you want to talk football, fine...but ripping on jerseys for post after post after post? Come on already.

haha, can you say hypocrite?

What the hell does jersey color mean to the success of a team???

haha, can you say hypocrite?

Really don't see how you can.

Stay strong powerhouse boy

What did Spiff say that was so bad, i guess i missed that.

bower starting this weekend lets see what this kid is made of!

bower starting this weekend lets see what this kid is made of!

he looked decent last week....except for that god awful INT that put the game away....

Problem is he's more of a scrambler than a passer. He didn't go through his progressions very well last week and looked to run instead of resorting to running...if that makes sense. Hopefully his progressions get better and he can scramble only when he needs to.

What did Spiff say that was so bad, i guess i missed that.

I said I thought it was hypocritical for him to tell me I can't rip on teams that are worse than FSU, while he goes along ripping on teams he presumes to be worse than Illinois. According to him it's not though, he's just a martyr with a funny disposition.
