CSF
From the Sun-Times: Cubs vs. Red Sox goes to court Talk about curses involving the Cubs and the Red Sox. That's exactly what ESPN plans to do Friday at 9 p.m. in a two-hour special debate "The Red Sox or Cubs: Whose Curse is Worse?'' Catherine Crier of Court TV will preside over the event. Leading and pleading the Boston case will be Harvard law school professor Alan Dershowitz. NYU law professor/Cubs fan Rick Pildes will present the North Siders' case. John Saunders will be the host for the trial, ESPN's third (the Yankees and Pete Rose being the first two). Witnesses for the "Curse of the Bambino'' will include former Red Sox pitchers Bill Lee and Luis Tiant, John "Angry Bill'' Constine of Boston sports-talk radio and Boston Globe columnist Dan Shaughnessey, author of Curse of the Bambino. Speaking on behalf of the "Billy Goat Curse'' will be actor George Wendt, NPR's Scott Simon, ESPN's (and former Cubs pitcher) Rick Sutcliffe and former Cubs reliever Phil Regan. Comedy Central's Nick DiPaolo and WGN's John Williams will be "courtside'' analysts. Final deliberation and the verdict will follow the show on "Baseball Tonight.'' "This continues our effort to explore new ways to dissect a variety of topics ranging from the very serious to the lighthearted,'' said John A. Walsh, ESPN executive vice president and executive editor (and mentor of yours truly many years ago at the University of Missouri's journalism school). "Like 'PTI,' 'Sports Reporters' and 'Around the Horn,' this trial format provides a different platform to debate subjects hotly argued among sports fans.'' Well, I have no problem with this. After all, I love ESPN.

It's the 1919 White Sox's fault that we can't afford players! It's the 1919 White Sox fault that the Twins crappy players are better than ours! It's the 1919 White Sox fault that Joe Crede is hitting .230 and Jose Valentin is hitting .215. How dare you blame it on the players and management? Are you nuts? It's the curse. C'mon. CrimsonWeltall
I was just saying that because when they did the "Are the Yankees bad for baseball?" trial, the jury was packed with New Yorkers (and not Mets fans).
