September 23, 200421 yr WAIT AND SEE: Williams said he has been more than happy with the job of first-year manager Ozzie Guillen, calling the entire coaching staff one of the best he has ever been around. But when asked if a contract extension was in order, the GM wasn't ready to head in that direction just yet. ''I don't remember if it was a two-year deal or a three-year deal,'' Williams said. ''He probably doesn't even know. Once we did the deal, we tossed it to the side and started talking baseball. Somebody around here knows, I'll have to check. That's how relevant it is.'' For the record, Guillen's deal was for two seasons with a team option for a third.
September 23, 200421 yr I'd wait until next season's conclusion before making any decisions. I agree. Ozzie still has to prove a thing or two, yet he deserves the opportunity to do so.
September 23, 200421 yr Yeah wait until next season. This was more less a learning season for Ozzie as being manager. I'm sure he'll improve next year and then he can have a contract extension.
September 23, 200421 yr Defintely no need to extend him yet. He really shown that he was anything special yet.
September 23, 200421 yr I have never understood extensions when there is still at least a year on the contract. If the player/coach was all that and a bag a chips, I guess I could see wanting to lock that person into a contract (sorry reading all the high school posts took me back there for a second ). Whatever works I guess.
