payroll doesn't matter?

Featured Replies

anyone notice the payrolls of the teams that made the playoffs? the only one below $85 mil is the twins.

yeah welcome to baseball economics.

In baseball as in life you get what you pay for.

If one is effective and efficient in his/her spending habits, he/her can assemble a playoff team on a payroll of $65-$70 million or in that area. JMHO...

I agree, it can happen, has happened, and will happen again.

Sure it can happen and will probably happen again. You catch lightning in a bottle like last years Marlins. You're not going to compete for the playoffs year in and year out with that philosophy.

Sure, you can make it to the playoffs with a small cap, but it's a hell of a lot easier to pay up.

Only team i can see that happening to is the twins. Because they just have so much f***ing talent in the minors and they have already brought up alot of players that are producing at the big league level.

If you're lucky.

In both cases.

You know come to think of it you're right. You get it if you're lucky. Doing it on the cheap in baseball as in life you have to be really lucky.

Small payrolls can work for a year (except if you're the Twins) but then the next year it seems that you're not in the playoffs. Higher payrolls always have a shot at being in the playoffs.
