November 18, 200421 yr I have nothing against him, i just don't think he would or should be considered an up and coming star with an era in the 5's and 6's throughout the majority of the year. Is that an unfair thing to say? That is unfair and frankly I'm suprised that you, the king of stats, would not be able to recoginize this kid's ability. To call Garland an up and coming star would be a strech...not Bonderman. The best baseball minds in the league have gawked at this kid's ability and they think he will be an ace in the not too distant future. He is not an all-star by any strech of the imagination, but yes, he is an up and coming one.
November 18, 200421 yr The key word there is expected. It was reported right after the press conference by ESPN Radio that Percival will be setting up. We will just have to wait and see. I fjnd it hard that Percival would sign so early, and without even visiting interested teams without Detroit either giving him the closers role, and/or assuring him Ugi is on his way out of town.

He ended the year with an era near 5 and if someone said he was an up and coming star that would be foolish imo. I know he is young, and i know he has a really good chance of busting out at any moment but until he proves that he can be more consistent for a longer period of time i don't think he should be considered one. If anyone wants to think or say he is that is cool, i just do not agree.
November 18, 200421 yr well GWERTY (i think I finally got that down), it's somewhere in the middle. His numbers don't necessarily say he will be a star this year, but up and coming star is a pretty loose label. I think he probably is their best pitcher already because Johnson and Maroth aren't head and shoulders above him really. Percival will not set-up according to an Angel fan I know. I anticipate them dealing Urbina unless they intend to not just moderatley increase payroll but increase it by a lot. Their farm system leaves a lot to be desired but I'd be optimistic about hte future if I were a Tiger fan.

November 18, 200421 yr 6 million dollars a year is a lot of money for a setup man. so is 4 million (Urbina)
November 18, 200421 yr Bonderman will almost undoubtedly be a stud pitcher some day...I'm just not sure next year will be the year. His numbers improved this year from 2003, and I expect about the same next year...but I don't expect him to come out and be Prior-esque of a year ago and just be flat out dominant. He may be like that someday, but I don't think it will be next year. In defense of Bonderman, his K/9, K/BB, ERA, and WHIP got better along with him winning a few more games too...but his BB/9 also got worse, and it's not like he was real good last year either. I could see a year where he has a 4.25-4.50 ERA with 12-15 wins(though I could also see a 10 or 11 win again with an ERA around 4.75)...but not a lot other then that. Not saying that's a bad year, just not a year from a star pitcher.
