I don't get whats so funny.

Noone since Robbie Alomar in his prime has the range of Willie Harris at 2B and Juan Uribe is a great defensive shortstop. Thats enough to make me want to put up with Willie in the 9 hole.

I don't get your fascination with Jason Grilli. He's just not that good. In fact i'll venture to say that he won't even be able to match even the most mediocore Garland year.

The fact that it very obviuos that both HArris and Uribe failed to secure those jobs in 04, and you are saying that they are ready to have those jobs in 05.

I don't think that we would have persued Visquel if Uribe was able to hanlde SS, and we would have not traded for Robby if Harris was able to handle 2b last year..

This is the same White Sox organization that traded for Carl Everett the first time just as Aaron Rowand was getting hot. Just because KW was after Vizquel for his offense (which is debatable looking at the last 4 years) doesn't change the fact that Willie is a great defensive 2B and for the price would make a great 9 hole hitter and perhaps a future lead off hitter in 06'.

A MN paper reports that the Twins have offered Koskie a 2 yr, $7 mill contract. And that despite some interest from a few teams, no other offers are on the table. The Sox could come in with a 3 yr offer, for say $10.5. That’s a decent contract for a guy like Koskie. He would give the Sox a LH bat that hits for a .280 avg, a good OBP, and solid defense. And provide a veteran for the IF to go along with Uribe and Harris [and possibly Gload if PK is traded]. It's even less than what they were going to give Vizquel.

I think if Minnesota is only offering 2 years, $7 million, they are nuts. If I were the Sox, I'd offer him 3 years, $12 million easily. He gets on base a lot (.377 career OBP) and his power would go way up playing at US Cellular. Moreover, signing Koskie makes the Twins immediately worse. I'm all for this - and it really allows the Sox more flexibility in trading Lee or Konerko away.

How much more time are we going to waste on Willie?

KW asured fans that Harris was ready in 04, only to fall flat on his face. Harris was suppose to be the Sox version of Juan Pierre..

Omar, was pursued becuase of his glove first and foremost, and 2nd for his bat. not that other way around. The 05 sox are suppose to be around pitching speed and D..much like the Twins have been built around the last 3.5 years.

In his first full year he posted a .262 average and a .343 OBP.

That is hardly falling flat on his face.

Anyone who has watched a sox games knows how great Willie is with the glove.

The reason we wanted Vizquel was because it would be a good top of the order hitter while not hurting us defensively

Its amazing what having a good final month of the season does for your stats huh?

Harris hit .218 in September. If anything those numbers hurt his final #'s. Even if you include the 4-7 he had in October, that brings him to just under .250 for that span.

Are you referring to Harris? He had a terrible final full month.

It doesn't matter because the Sox didn't get Vizquel, but you still have it backwards.

The Sox wanted him for his defense first.

His skills as a hitter were a big added attraction.

I'm suprised he did as good as he did considering he was benched when he was hot in order to let Jose Valentin back in the lineup because Ozzie had to choose between Uribe or Harris. :puke

I just don't buy that. We quite a few defensive holes on this team. However the middle infield isn't one of them.

Yes we wanted a good defensive player in order to make Uribe a utility man but to say that it was the main reason isn't accurate. If it wasn't for his numbers with the bat last year we would have never gave him a second look.

That is your opinion vs. what the White Sox came out and said they needed.

The main reason they chased after Vizquel was because they said they wanted a team built around speed and defense. His skills as a hitter were an added attraction, as I stated.

Insist on being right if you want.

 I honestly don't know what to say to this. Uribe is a s good a defender as Omar Fa-king Vasquel?? Now I think I have head it all.

Finally you got it right

Harris :puke

I agree that the sox wanted a team built on speed and defense.

However had Vizquel batted .250 last year there is no way we show the same amount of interest and sox fans would of cruicified KW for signing him.

He also wouldn't have gotten a 2 year $10 million offer from the Sox either...

True but even if we signed him to a three million dollar deal I think that sox fans would have been against it.

I mean it's hard to imagine we would talk about Garland, Harris, Crede being mediocore and then be happy about signing someone else who would be medicore offensively.

It's not all about cost.

I was against it since they satrted to talk about him, your getting off the topic to save your ass...

Harris and Uribe are not the answer at 2b/SS

Still no mentions of Corey Koskie on this page, only 1 on the second page, and now we have posters accusing other posters of being off-topic b/c they're not talking about whether or not Willie sucks...

How am I off topic. I was responding to what southsider had said.

Not all the posts I have made on this thread are meant to be directed at you.

I have already said why I think that Uribe and Harris are suitable for our middle infield and I don't have any more to say about it. You have every right to disagree with my opinions but please don't start to level personal attacks on me.

hijacked!!

Please foward your crystal ball to the rest of us.

Vizquel would have been mediocre offensively with the Sox ... ummm, ok.

If White Sox management were 100% happy and satisfied with a starting 2B/SS of Harris and Uribe, they wouldn't have pursued Vizquel.

Your opinion that Harris and Uribe will be just fine is different than White Sox management's.

At this point, an everyday combo of Harris/Uribe may come to pass because the Sox backed themselves into a corner by not getting Vizquel (not that I blame them for a 3 year deal at the $$ he got from SF). And now Williams is backpeddling that "all is well" with the 2B and SS situation.

Lots of things can happen, it's very early in the offseason.

You misunderstood what I said.

I said had he hit that last year with Cleveland. I have no idea how he would of done for us.

However I agree with you 100% on everything else you said.

No problem.

I was, though, referring to this statement:

"then be happy about signing someone else who would be medicore offensively."
