November 18, 200421 yr No problem. I was, though, referring to this statement: "then be happy about signing someone else who would be medicore offensively." What I meant was had he hit .250 with Cleveland then there is no way that sox fans would of accepted him as a started shortstop the following year. Thats what I was trying to say.
November 18, 200421 yr Back to the main point of the thread, beck: I think that signing Koskie to, as mentioned earlier, three years, four million per, would be a great idea. Many pluses to adding Koskie. First and foremost, it takes away a key part of the Twins' success and adds him to our team. Second, he's a very good defender. Other pluses include his veteran leadership, left handed bat, ability to hit for power as well as ablility to walk.

November 18, 200421 yr I like Koskie, but let's see what he's going to get. I think $3.5-4 is what people are thinking, but it sounds like a lot of teams are interested (off the top of my head, I've heard about the Blue Jays, Tigers, and Mariners, along w/ the Twins of course). It's the same situation as Polanco -- they're great at that initial price, but everyone's noticing that at the same time. I'd be happy with him though.
November 18, 200421 yr I would love to get Koskie but I can't imagine anyone giving us anything worth while for Crede if we already have another 3B already signed. Then again I think Koskie gives us something a little bit more dependable which is what we need.
November 18, 200421 yr i'd keep crede around to platoon and fill in when koskie inevitably gets hurt.
November 18, 200421 yr My Minny contact has told me that the Blue Jays have been very aggressive in the Koskie talks and that he was listening. I think Kosike would be a decent FA pickup, but that dough can be used elsewhere; its just that simple. This organization still has a thing for Joe "Wonderboy" Crede and I think he is going to have another shot at it this year. Sorry fellas, just don't see it happening. It's not that great of a move for us at this point in time. Priorites 1. Kendall 2. Paulie Trade (Brings in our coveted SP) 3. Bullpen Arm 4. Platoon-type player for the IF/OF
November 18, 200421 yr Priorites 1. Trading Pauly to Baltimore for Gibbons, Roberts and Julio 2. Signing of Jon Lieber Welcome to the 2005 AL division Champs Chicago White Sox and GM of the year in KW manager of the YEar Ozzie Gullien no other moves are nesscary to win..that is all
November 18, 200421 yr Priorites 1. Kendall 2. Paulie Trade (Brings in our coveted SP) 3. Bullpen Arm 4. Platoon-type player for the IF/OF Actually our priorities should be: SP RP Lead-off hitter/LH bat Back up IF/OF.

Signing of Jon Lieber Welcome to the 2005 AL division Champs Chicago White Sox and GM of the year in KW manager of the YEar Ozzie Gullien no other moves are nesscary to win..that is all So, Ms Cleo...you wanna put a little wager on that? I'm guessing none of that happens.

Besides, I think the O's will add their 1B via free agency. They are also in love with Brian Roberts.
November 18, 200421 yr So, Ms Cleo...you wanna put a little wager on that? I'm guessing none of that happens. This is why KW should be fired for not making the smart moves...instead we will over pay in regards to out trades for players and throw more of our furture away for another 2 or even worse 3 place finish
November 18, 200421 yr Personally, I don't think Konerko to Baltimore is that far fetched. The Orioles are sniffing around Sexson and Delgado big time. They will probably get one of those but might not get either. Sox have long been interested in Jay Gibbons, if the usual rumor sources (media) can be trusted. Orioles have 1-2 intriguing guys in the pen, and Hairston is probably trade bait there. I see some potential match ups there. Agree on Lieber. That would be an excellent signing but they probably won't do it ($$$).
November 18, 200421 yr Author I think if Minnesota is only offering 2 years, $7 million, they are nuts. If I were the Sox, I'd offer him 3 years, $12 million easily. He gets on base a lot (.377 career OBP) and his power would go way up playing at US Cellular. Moreover, signing Koskie makes the Twins immediately worse. I'm all for this - and it really allows the Sox more flexibility in trading Lee or Konerko away. The low Minn. offer, and the lack of any other offers, makes it very possible for the Sox to come in and get him. A decent 3 yr deal could still be lower than the numbers Vizquel was going to get.

You can't just put in any players, and put in any players on the other team, and swap... I dunno, you just seem to have a know-it-all attitude, like you know what will happen and is going to happen. Sometimes, things pop up that prevent certain trades from going through. Like in most cases, we just don't know...
November 18, 200421 yr JimH, people also forget that they are going to be loooking to trade away someone once they sign Beltran. Yes Baltimore is going to sign Beltran, they missed out on Vladdy, I have a feeling they are not going to miss out on Beltran.

A decent 3 yr deal could still be lower than the numbers Vizquel was going to get. Koskie will recieve offers from both Toronto and Kansas City. I would guess one of those two would offer a thrid year, most likely KC. I anticipate Toronto will overpay on this one. IIRC, they want to move Eric Hinskie to the other side of the infield.

A decent 3 yr deal could still be lower than the numbers Vizquel was going to get. How do you know there are no other offers? I've heard that teams are interested, and Addison mentioned something about the Blue Jays making a push. I hope you're right, but I doubt it.

Right now, only Minn's offer is on the table, per Koskie in todays Pioneer Press [?]. The sox could come w/ a 3yr deal that Minn can't beat. Then the other teams have to s*** or get off the pot. At worst, an offer pushes him away from Minn.

Then again I think Koskie gives us something a little bit more dependable which is what we need. With Koskie signed, Crede could be traded for an additional piece, say a bullpen arm. Would a team like TB trade Danys Baez [a good player who is making too much money for their team] for Crede and minor leaguers or cheap players? Probably. There are a lot of teams "stuck" with veterans while a younger guy could do the job. The guy is valuable, but salary relief is also valuable for the team. Yet Crede has the "breakout" potential low payroll teams need to get out of players if they are to have a decent season. TB is one for instance. Milw could be another.
