Bits and Pieces Article

Pieces from the article that concern us include;

Pittsburgh will send $5 million to Oakland to help pay Kendall's $13 million salary in 2007 but still will save about $15 million. The Pirates will put Redman (11-12, 4.71 ERA this season) in a rotation that includes Oliver Perez, Kip Wells and Josh Fogg. GM Dave Littlefield hopes to ship Rhodes to Los Angeles in a package for combustible center fielder Milton Bradley.

Kendall could have been useful to the White Sox, especially with the Pirates helping to make the money fit. But the presence of Craig Wilson in the Pittsburgh lineup limited Littlefield's interest in Paul Konerko. It's also unclear if Kendall would have waived his no-trade clause to come to the Sox.

Between them, Woody Williams and Matt Morris earned $19 million last season. Their impending departures give Cardinals GM Walt Jocketty the financial flexibility to pursue a Randy Johnson deal.

The White Sox, Yankees and Angels also are exploring possible Johnson trades. The Cardinals appear to be offering Reggie Sanders in a package that probably includes 26-year-old first baseman-outfielder John Gall, who hit .292 with 22 homers at Triple-A Memphis. But the Diamondbacks probably could get more firepower from the Sox in Konerko and one top minor-league outfielder, either Brian Anderson or Ryan Sweeney.

The price of poker

St. Louis is offering shortstop Edgar Renteria a four-year, $32 million contract, which is back-loaded. It's unclear if that will be enough for the Cardinals to retain him.

The White Sox were interested in Nomar Garciaparra a year ago. Some believe they are making another push, but they have gone underground since failing to sign Omar Vizquel. Their interest in Vizquel would not have been so great if they were drafting 16th in the 2005 draft rather than 15th. You can't lose one of the top 15 picks, so the Sox would have had to sacrifice a second-round pick, not a first, to sign Vizquel. San Francisco is losing its first-rounder to sign Vizquel, as it forfeited a first-rounder to sign Michael Tucker a year ago. You get the idea GM Brian Sabean doesn't think first-round picks are worth the money and aggravation.

I'm sorry, we're all fellow sox fans, we should all get along and be friendly to eachother. But anthrax has so many arguments that have no credibility, and when another poster disagrees he refuses to see their point. It's like talking with a 13 year old kid who thinks they know the world when they really don't know s***. One again, I apologize, but thank you for letting me vent :puke
