Song Meaning

Not that most of you care, but I've gotten into a discussion with a friend over a meaning of a song and wanted to get the take of some of the posters on what they feel the meaning is behind the song. Hopefully this could help to settle the discussion. In an effort to not influence your opinion, I'm not going to post what our contrasting views are, I am just interested to see what everyone has to say. Thanks to those who care to offer their opinions.

Here are the lyrics:

Welcome to the planet

Welcome to exsistance

Everyones here

Everyones here

Everyones watching you now

Everybody waits for you now

What happens next

What happens next

I dare you to move

I dare you to move

I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor

I dare you to move

I dare you to move like the day never happened

Today never happened before

Welcome to the fallout

Welcome to resistance

The tension is here

The tension is here

Between who you are and who you could be

Between how it is and how it should be

I dare you to move

I dare you to move

I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor

I dare you to move

I dare you to move like the day never happened

Today never happened

Maybe redemption has stories to tell

Maybe forgiveness is right where you fell

Where can you run to escape from yourself

Where you gonna go

Where you gonna go

Salvation is here......

I dare you to move

I dare you to move

I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor

I dare you to move

I dare you to move like the day never happened

Today never happened

Today never happened

Today never happened

Today never happened before

What I find funny is I have all their albums (I admit it i'm a Christian and I like to listen to christian rock music).

It was on one of their independant label release Learning to Breathe and then for some reason re-released on their mainsteam album when it so obviously had a christian context to it.

As for it's meaning i'd say it's about making a mistake, picking yourself up, and then asking god to help you start over.

I listen to some Christian Rock also and I agree with Jeckles analysis. Its cool seeing Switchfoot in the mainstream, similar to P.O.D., Pillar, 12 Stones, Skillet, and even to an extent Creed. Old Creed rocked, Alterbridge is better than late Creed as they got softer and softer on each album. Ok my music speaking is over.

/waits for Cali to put up the pic of the "Even Jesus Hates Creed" t-shirt.

HAHAHA. Even I forgot about that one

I can't remember where the picture of that is.....damn

And yes Creed did suck, as does the band who's song is mentioned in this thread in my opinion.

Jars of Clay during there Flood Tour was one of my all time favorite concerts. I caught them at the Rosemont Theater.

As far as taking Christian songs and turning them mainstreams, there are more than most people think. Songs like "Have I Told You Lately" had a big Christian feel when Van Morrison sang it, less so when Rod Stewart covered it. Was it a Christian song or secular when Stewart recorded it?

I also wonder why we don't differentiate other topics like we do religion. We don't call some bands "Love Bands" or "Drug Bands" or any other topics.
