Edgar Renteria

The Cardinals already have offered Renteria 4 year / $22.0M deal. At only $5.5M a season, don't you think the Sox should sweep in with some 4 year / $24.0 type deal?

Any show of hands here that wouldn't like Renteria at the top of our order and manning SS through 2008 for the Sox, for only $6.0M a year?

Renteria at $6 mil a year is a steal. Problem is if our offer is that close to STL, I have no doubts he will stay in STL.

The Cardinals actually offered $32 mil, not $22 mil, so says Rotoworld. It's backloaded, so the value is a little less than $8 mil per. But I'd be surprised if he doesn't better offers than that.

Now that makes a lot more sense. $8 mil a year is much more realistic with the market value that was already set. To think that Renteria was only going to average a million dollars a year more than Guzman would have been a pretty s***ty offer.

The Cubs continue to negotiate with Nomar Garciaparra on a one-year deal but must get it done by Dec. 7. Other intriguing possibilities include the Cardinals' Edgar Renteria and Boston's Orlando Cabrera, but neither will be cheap. The Cardinals already have offered Renteria $22 million over four years, and Cabrera wants three years at an average of more than the $6 million he made last season. A fallback would be Neifi Perez playing shortstop or second base.

5 years at 9 a season. Well worth it.

We'll probably have a SS platoon of Mike Caruso and Pat Listach (now there are some names from the early 90s archive).

Mike Caruso was not around in the early 90's.

Pardon me, I should have been more specific and winded and said "How's that for names from the early 90s in Listach and from the 98-99 campaigns in Caruso."

Done what... asking for a correction on your incorrect comments...?

When you post correct things you won't get asked to clarify. Maybe try to be clear the first time and you wouldn't have to be rude and condescending in your follow up replies.

Who would need to be moved to fit that salary into JRs finances? Konerko?

To fit into JR's.. probably no one. To fit into the boards.. definitely at least Konerko.

I have want to ship PK away the day we could start to trade players again.. He doesn't fit the mold of the 2005 Sox

Please tell me where Pauly fits into this?

Personally I made the suggestion for a trade for Pauly to get 3 pieces of the puzzle that we need with still enough money to go after the last pieces to win.

He had a stolen base that one game. I say we slide him into our fifth starter spot.

wasn't that the same game that the catcher passed out on that play!!

Pauly K is sooo Slow...

I wonder what the source for that Maller report is, b/c I'm sure it's a typo. The St Louis Post-Dispatch initially reported the $8 mil per over 4 years, here.

The Cards wouldn't even bother to offer a contract like that. You're offering the best shortstop on the market barely more than Christian Guzman, and a paycut -- less money than he's made in each of the last 3 years. It's too absurd to be true.

RJ needs to be moved .. to WHEREVER. It appears as if every other trade and/or signing is on hold because of it (and the winter meetings deadline approaching). How frustrating is that ... waiting on where (or even IF) RJ is moved ... to await the rest of the movement around the league.

Anyone else think that once the RJ scenario is worked out, moved or not, that the flood gate for moves and signings will open?
