December 1, 200421 yr Do you have a listing of the NL free agents? I posted a link in "FA Resource" of the AL players and what class they are. But with Wright's poor 2003, I'd think he'd be a Type B FA. Thats what I figured too.
December 1, 200421 yr Offman reported this morning on Boers and Bernstein that Wright was K-Dub's primary target and they were prepared to give him around 20 mil for 3 years, followed by Perez, Clement, El Duke, and Russ Ortiz. That's a good list of SP's to target, and in the right order. If the score is getting some info, the Sox should be close to a deal. If not, and the Sox are going public with another failed FA signing, more bad PR that they don't need. They'd just be better off telling the media the time of a press conference announcing a signing instead of leaking reports of "plans" that could change in an hour.
December 1, 200421 yr ATL will offer arb. He made $850 k last yr. Wright would get far less than the $6 + mill possible deal in ARB w/ his past injuries.
December 1, 200421 yr ATL will offer arb. He made $850 k last yr. Wright would get far less than the $6 + mill possible deal in ARB w/ his past injuries. Ya, If I recall the most you can get in arb is a doubling of your salary or something along those lines. Which would mean he'd get like 1.7 mill or so.
December 1, 200421 yr KW then blames the fans and media for ruining his potential Wright deal and states that he is going into stealth mode in an effort to "fly under the radar" for the rest of the White Sox offseason :rolly . He is like someone who is on EBAY, trying to always win with the first low-ball bid...
December 1, 200421 yr He is like someone who is on EBAY, trying to always win with the first low-ball bid... Instead, he needs to wait til near the end of the auction and get a better deal.

December 1, 200421 yr i imagine it's the agents leaking info more than anyone else. they stand to gain the most by it, driving up competing teams' bids at the last minute. BA has wright as a type A FA. i remember their list was wrong on a coupla guys last year and they subsequently changed it, but as of now they have him as a type A. Type A Moises Alou (ChC), Wilson Alvarez (LA), *Tony Batista (Mon), Carlos Beltran (Hou), Adrian Beltre (LA), Armando Benitez (Fla), Jeromy Burnitz (Col), Orlando Cabrera (Bos), Miguel Cairo (NYY), Vinny Castilla (Col), Royce Clayton (Col), *Roger Clemens (Hou), Rheal Cormier (Phi), Carlos Delgado (Tor), J.D. December 1, 200421 yr There are some awful Type A's--Grudz, Shuey [didn't even pitch in 2004], Miceli, Batista, Mantei. I'd like to see how their ratings came out
December 1, 200421 yr I think Shuey retired. If he didn't he would be a great pickup. Too bad he's type A and your right some of them just don't make sense. Mantei won't be offered arb though and is another guy that could be a nice pickup for the pen.

Mantei won't be offered arb though and is another guy that could be a nice pickup for the pen. I think Shuey had one of the Conditions like Paulie does. Degenerative (sp?) and he retired to. I saw him in Winter Ball a few years back and he could bring it. He threw Hard

Wait Wait Wait.. So Kenny is prepared to give Jared Wright 20 Mil for 3 seasons but they won't spend on who's worth it??? HUH!! I would Give Wright 3/15 Mil that's all. Jared Wright had a good Season but he ain't that good or worth 6.5 Million Bucks. And how can Odalis Perez be ahead of Matt Clement? And EL DUQUE??/ GIVE ME A f***ING BREAK KENNY. Duqu is like 45 yrs Old. :headshake

Duqu is like 45 yrs Old. :headshake And you wonder why I want to have KW replaced.... This is just another reason to add to the list if this story is true. With that being said.. I hope this story is much like last years when we supposedly had signed Ponson to a 3 year deal only to be reported false.
December 1, 200421 yr And how can Odalis Perez be ahead of Matt Clement? And EL DUQUE??/ GIVE ME A f***ING BREAK KENNY. Duqu is like 45 yrs Old. :headshake Odalis Perez is ahead of Clement because he's a lefty and younger. And what's wrong with El Duque? He's old, but he would provide an excellent fifth starter for very cheap.
December 1, 200421 yr I kind of doubt Duque would be that cheap. I bet he'd make at least 5-6 between big teams like NY and Boston taking a lon look at him. I would rank them 1. Odalis 2. Duque, and 3. Clement. I put Duque ahead of Clement because it would be a shorter deal, he has been the only big game stud amongst the bunch, and I don't like clement's inconsistency. This all despite the notable age and health concerns.
December 1, 200421 yr Odalis Perez is ahead of Clement because he's a lefty and younger. And what's wrong with El Duque? He's old, but he would provide an excellent fifth starter for very cheap. Sorry Man... SAY NO TO EL DUQUE! Need to set our goals higher, Not settle for ligthning in a bottle
December 1, 200421 yr Duque only made $500,000 last year, he's 35 and at the end of his rope, I don't see him making any more than $2-3 mil a year at two years max. I could see Clement and Perez looking for the same amount of dough that Wright is looking for $5-7 mil a year.
December 1, 200421 yr Sorry Man... SAY NO TO EL DUQUE! Need to set our goals higher, Not settle for ligthning in a bottle Haha, I hear ya, but it's hard to set goals higher when there's so many holes to fill. Personally I'd rather sign El Duque, and a couple of quality bullpen guys rather than go for Clement, Wright, or Perez and have little leeway as far as signing someone else.
December 1, 200421 yr Ya, If I recall the most you can get in arb is a doubling of your salary or something along those lines. Which would mean he'd get like 1.7 mill or so. Makes no sense because if he was only 1.7 million next year atlanta would have to sign him. I have read off of one of their message boards that they cannot sign him next year over anything over four million and they never mentioned arbitration.

Well Atlanta would offer him arb and than thats the max raise he would get if he accepted. He's not going to accept.

They probably will offer arb, knowing he will definitely turn it down...then they can still get that sandwich pick and a 2nd rounder.
