Do you have a listing of the NL free agents? I posted a link in "FA Resource" of the AL players and what class they are. But with Wright's poor 2003, I'd think he'd be a Type B FA.

Offman reported this morning on Boers and Bernstein that Wright was K-Dub's primary target and they were prepared to give him around 20 mil for 3 years, followed by Perez, Clement, El Duke, and Russ Ortiz.

That's a good list of SP's to target, and in the right order.

 

If the score is getting some info, the Sox should be close to a deal. If not, and the Sox are going public with another failed FA signing, more bad PR that they don't need. They'd just be better off telling the media the time of a press conference announcing a signing instead of leaking reports of "plans" that could change in an hour.

Ya, If I recall the most you can get in arb is a doubling of your salary or something along those lines. Which would mean he'd get like 1.7 mill or so.

KW then blames the fans and media for ruining his potential Wright deal and states that he is going into stealth mode in an effort to "fly under the radar" for the rest of the White Sox offseason  :rolly .

There are some awful Type A's--Grudz, Shuey [didn't even pitch in 2004], Miceli, Batista, Mantei. I'd like to see how their ratings came out

I think Shuey retired. If he didn't he would be a great pickup. Too bad he's type A and your right some of them just don't make sense.

Odalis Perez is ahead of Clement because he's a lefty and younger. And what's wrong with El Duque? He's old, but he would provide an excellent fifth starter for very cheap.

I kind of doubt Duque would be that cheap. I bet he'd make at least 5-6 between big teams like NY and Boston taking a lon look at him. I would rank them 1. Odalis 2. Duque, and 3. Clement. I put Duque ahead of Clement because it would be a shorter deal, he has been the only big game stud amongst the bunch, and I don't like clement's inconsistency. This all despite the notable age and health concerns.

Duque only made $500,000 last year, he's 35 and at the end of his rope, I don't see him making any more than $2-3 mil a year at two years max. I could see Clement and Perez looking for the same amount of dough that Wright is looking for $5-7 mil a year.

Haha, I hear ya, but it's hard to set goals higher when there's so many holes to fill. Personally I'd rather sign El Duque, and a couple of quality bullpen guys rather than go for Clement, Wright, or Perez and have little leeway as far as signing someone else.

Well Atlanta would offer him arb and than thats the max raise he would get if he accepted. He's not going to accept.

they can offer arb, but he can turn it down. They probably will offer arb, knowing he will definitely turn it down...then they can still get that sandwich pick and a 2nd rounder.
