December 6, 200421 yr Mario where ya been? havent seen ya around in along time. I've been around, posting here and there.
December 6, 200421 yr Really, really ignorant. Im not saying it to brag, Im saying it to prove a point in the fact that they keep talking about OPS which really shouldnt be a statistic. OBP and SLG should be viewed seperately.
December 6, 200421 yr Why so much importance with Escobar???? He's AAA Fodder Who ever think's he's gonna a ML Player is nuts
December 6, 200421 yr 98% huh? But what if it's only 97%? :headshake :banghead :sleep Isn't this the same 14 year old who said he hated Borchard ever since he was drafted and that Arizona should accept a Bajenaru and Jon Garland trade for RJ? Or how it would be a fair deal for the Yankees to trade A-Rod for Joe Crede? Yeah, ok. :rolly

December 6, 200421 yr I really wasn't aware of what Escobar's injury was, but if he was trying to hit with a broken bone in his foot, I can understand a Mendoza-like batting average. That's your foundation and your legs and hips generate the power. Look at how Frank Thomas struggled while he was waiting for Ordonez to come off the DL. I'm glad KW snapped this guy up. It could prove to be a very astute move.
December 6, 200421 yr Hits and extra base hits come in stretches for ALL hitters. Every players has there hot and cold streaks. This is true with pitchers as well-they will have many consecutive starts where the offense is getting hits. Homeruns and Walks are something that for the most part stay constant. Most people dont really understand OPS in the fact that OBP is 2 or 3x more important than SLG. It is part of sabermetrics which has developed from the start of Bill James, and I know more about sabermetrics than 98% of the people in this forum. [all credibility flies out the window]

OBP and SLG should be viewed seperately. If a guy has a good OPS, odds are the guy is a very good player. From what you are saying, I am to understand that Jason Kendall is a better player then Miguel Tejada offensively, because Kendall had an OBP of .400 while Tejada's was .360...am I correct in saying this? With the importance of OBP, it must be true, correct?
