After reading the paper today.........let's assume that Clement is now out of our price range ( he has 2 better [$$] offers on the table) and that we can afford either Perez and Lowe.

Are we better off with Perez or Lowe as our#4 guy and bumping Garland down to the #5 slot. OR are we better off with Garland at #4 and Grilli at #5 ?

Even if we think we'd be overpaying Perez or Lowe, I think that's the better choice.

I'd prefer Perez, settle for Lowe. Anyone but Munoz, Diaz, and the other AAA1/2 guys we've been seeing.

I like the fact that Lowe is a ground-ball pitcher - that'd come in handy at USCF.

Don't know if Perez is or not.

He still got lit up last year ground ball pitcher or not.

I prefer Perez because he's left handed. I also heard many times last year Lowe was a "headcase". He seems to be very sensitve. I'd rather not have to deal with that.

I like Perez, but he's not going to come cheap. No guarantee he'll be affordable.

Pitched well in the playoffs, though.

What do I know? I wanted Lieber.

After he pitched well in the playoffs it raised his price a s*** load. Supposedly near the ten million dollar range. I do not think ten he is worth ten million dollars, i mean he had a 5.42 era during the regular season.

I also wanted lieber.

Neither one of them are Mark Buehrle-mentall tough. I've seen Lowe breakdown so many times, and yet he did well in the postseason. Perez kinda blew up in the playoffs. That said, I'd be excited about both. I do worry that the Perez market (which seemed quiet with pretty much only the Nats) will wake up in a roar now that the BoSox are talking and we will get priced out.

Foulke blew up in the playoffs too. Are you glad we don't have him? I think it was a one-time thing, I'd like to see Perez come here. But I agree w/ you, when all's said and done, he's going to cost someone.

He was known for blowing ''big games.'' But i do not buy that, only other ''big game'' he really blew was against the yankees when he gave up five runs and a home run to giambi that is still going.

Make the trade for Burnett...

f*** THE REST

Burnett sucks.

I also doubt that we are getting Cabrera.

(just throwing that in)

They wouldn't have beaten the Yankees had it not been for Keith Foulke going out and keeping them in those extra-inning games. He went 5 games for 6 innings with a 0 era. Meanwhile, Odalis got rocked in 2 starts against he Cardinals in the playoffs with a 14 era in 2 starts that combined for 5 innings. So I don't see truth in your point.

If you are talking to me i am just saying that what someone does in the post season should not really have a large affect on how they get paid. You have to take a look and see how they perform in the regualr season. Also i am just sick of hearing how foulke blew ''big games.''

Foulke got rocked in the 2000 ALDS, but he came back and did a great job this year. (There's your "truth".) My point is that these can simply be bad performances. Odalis was bad in the playoffs this year, but that doesn't imply he can't perform under pressure. (Just like Foulke's crappy series didn't prevent him from pitching well this year.)

just don't let silly things like facts get in the way of a point

So he can end up on the DL... yeah f*** who we give up for him too right?

Excuse me? Wtf, Foulke had an era of over 11 in the 2000 postseason. Are you denying this? Or just talking out your ass?

I believe post season stats for the most part should be thrown out the window. Maybe that is just me. ;)

Stats

So A guy who gets injuried now sucks...

Are you kidding me? Look at the 02 stats before Tommy John, it takes anywhere from 1-2 years to fully recover, Hell last year he had some pretty decent games.

So he can end up on the DL... yeah f*** who we give up for him too right?

So one time on the DL with Tommy John and now the guy is injuried prone.. WTF we traded for Contreas, who is worse off than AJ.

I'd more or less agree with that. They don't tell you much. That was exactly my point. If Perez is not mentally tough b/c he faltered in the playoffs, then Foulke couldn't have been mentally tough b/c he did the same. But we saw this year that Foulke could perform damn well in the playoffs. (And last year he was pretty good, too.)

Keith Foulke did choke in big games. The keyword there bieng did ... as in past tense. He's a solid veteran gutsy closer now. It comes with maturity and experience. (Which is I why I don't want to give up on Garland yet).

AJ Burnett is a flamethrowing horse. He's over the TJ surgery now. Let's get him.

God! I can't believe I'm agreeing with Anthrax!
