chisox05
Remember how a ton of you(especially the evil qwertY) were bashing me cuz i said carlos was lazy on defense and really doesnt perform the way people expect him to. I'm just wondering that now that people who have played with him for 162 games have gone out to say that he doesnt put forth all the effort possible and is lazy and lackidasical, will u admit u were wrong and apologize to me? Or are you going to make up an excuse?
CWSGuy406
I don't see it. He was better than more than half of the LFers in the AL in range factor and zone rating, plus, he had zero errors. If he's better than half of them, I guess it'd be OK for me to call him above average. I don't think anyone ever called him a gold glover. We just said that he was above average, and isn't as bad as everyone was calling him...

Defensive statistics are so off based becasue they are SO many variables that it is really difficult to tell unless one consistantly watches almost every game. He cost the sox a # of baserunners from his laziness in the outfield-possibly because he didn't want to make an error, so tried to avoid making a play. chisox05
If I read correctly what Jason wrote, he said that most of the people that had a problem with him was managers, not players... I was referring to tony and he wrote nothing of the sort. In the interview, buehrle said he knew teammates who thought this about carlos, and later emphasized that the people on the coaching staff thought this as well. Buehrle never said that HE DID NOT think this of carlos, he just rejected the article that the author had any idea what buehrle thought of him. In fact, I'd think that buehrle would be one of the guys that thinks this of him.
southsideirish
I for one never thought Carlos was good defensively or was even an average LF. I thought he played out of position a lot, but not just that, he showed a lack of hustle and always got a bad jump on the ball. His lack of hustle showed on many foul balls that he should have got to. If you have really seen him play live then you know he very seldom got a good break on the ball. Watching him play LF was just as distrubing and aggravating as watching Sosa play RF. The "highlight film" diving catches he would make was because of his awful jumps on fly balls and he had to dive in order to make up for that. The same can be said for Sosa. For the most part they are routine fly balls for any other major league OFer. It was really aggravating watching him play LF.
