I think he's trying to do what Arnold did. A star does not live on action roles alone but also has to play the loveable family guy as well.

These examples show that the badass has to try to have a softside for his action movie bloodlust or the actor will be endlessly typecast into roles. But I personally think it's because Diesel really does need the money

Key word he is "trying" to do what Arnold did. I doubt its gonna work for him either though. He should just go back to XXX and make a bazillion sequels because that is what he is suited for. Either that or he better start working on an Austrian accent.
