Sox Sign Jeremy Giambi

Featured Replies

Bulls***. Everyone is ripping McGwire, Bonds, Giambi, and others for using or allegedly using steroids but now we have someone on our team and steroids is suddenly not a big deal. Give me a break. This is bulls***. Sure, Jeremy Giambi hasn't done s*** in his career but he still used steroids. Cut his ass.

I haven't heard anyone say it's "not a big deal". Only that it's not right to blacklist someone from the majors. As long as he's done with it, I'm okay with the signing. And if the minor league testing applies, I'm not too concerned.

Btw, why does the fact that he "hasn't done s*** in his career" matter? It would be okay if he were better?

I agree.

He's admitted it. He made a mistake. He hasn't gone into denial like some of the other alleged players. Move on -- as long as he's still not using, that's fine with me.

From Doug Padilla of the Sun-Times:

Before he finished speaking on the subject, Williams gave a nod toward Tellem. Williams said he has yet to speak to Giambi directly but did get assurances before the signing that Giambi no longer is on steroids.

"We got those assurances through Arn, and there are not too many guys out there that have as much integrity and respect as Arn Tellem,'' Williams said. "To me, that was like having a conversation with the guy.''

Even though MLB wants to pretend they had a blind eye and didn't know that steroids were as prevelent as they are, here is proof to the contrary. Giambi had no ties to the Sox, yet KW got assurances from Tellum before signing Giambi. So, it is very easy to come to the conclusion that Jeremy Giambi's steroid use was well known throughout baseball. If it wasn't, why would KW ask about them?

Yeah, at very least there are guilt by associations going on here. I like the fact that Tellum stuck up for the guy. There might not be a better agent-owner relationship on the Sox than what Tellum has with this team. Hopefully that means something good. It also makes sense why the Sox are giving this guy a chance. This is a favor to Tellum, no doubt.
