March 17, 200521 yr QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 09:44 AM) "They need to fix it.. or we will". They should. The anti-trust exemption they have from Congress is part of the problem.
March 17, 200521 yr Comparing it to NFL's policy now. MLB (players specifically, IMO) is being made to look like the assholes they are.
March 17, 200521 yr QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 09:45 AM) Page 11 of the MLB penalties... "10 day suspension OR 10K fine" Sick. Or just 1/16th of the season. And the sad thing the policy that they agreed upon through collective bargining wouldn't have had any suspension until the 3rd offense. The first offense would have been cousiling and their name wouldn't have been made public.

March 17, 200521 yr QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 09:49 AM) I can't see this "one standard" based on the Olympic policy ever happening. Nope. Baseball will stop first.
March 17, 200521 yr Author Missing 10 games in baseball would be equivalent to an nfl player missing 1 game. The NFL has 8 games (and it works) so it would make sense for baseball to have an 80 + suspension.
March 17, 200521 yr Hmmm.... questioning the records that have been set since players started using.. and IF they were using during that time.. take the records AWAY!!
March 17, 200521 yr QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 09:50 AM) SS2K5 .. you should pin this thread. Done and done.

March 17, 200521 yr Author Records should be taken away! Yesss that would be great. They gone! ....now about that 2000 MVP award......
March 17, 200521 yr QUOTE(rangercal @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 09:50 AM) Missing 10 games in baseball would be equivalent to an nfl player missing 1 game. The NFL has 8 games (and it works) so it would make sense for baseball to have an 80 + suspension. IF it happened, that would be fine. But that's the point.. it's not mandatory that they are suspended and the "or" in there gives them the out that they can just be fined. And it's "up to" 10K.. meaning that the fine could literally only be $1.

The problem is that it would be impossible to prove anything at this point. There are no tests from 5, 10, 15, 20 years ago.
March 17, 200521 yr Author QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 09:52 AM) I don't see how Congress can legislate baseball's record books. that is a tough one
March 17, 200521 yr QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 09:52 AM) I don't see how Congress can legislate baseball's record books. They can't... but I think it's awesome that they tossed that out there.

March 17, 200521 yr QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 09:52 AM) I don't see how Congress can legislate baseball's record books. They can't legislate per say, but that anti-trust exemption is the trump card. If baseball loses that they way they do business would have to change dramatically.
March 17, 200521 yr I like the idea Bunning said that they should just be kicked out on first offense. Who's going to risk losing the chance to continue making $12M a year?
March 17, 200521 yr Bunning said something about a RH hitting 2B hitting 425 feet to RCF, but not naming names. I will ... Brett Boone.
March 17, 200521 yr QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 09:54 AM) I like the idea Bunning said that they should just be kicked out on first offense. Who's going to risk losing the chance to continue making $12M a year? He didn't say that.
March 17, 200521 yr QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 10:55 AM) He didn't say that. I thought he did. What did he say when asked what he would do if he was commish then?
March 17, 200521 yr Having Bunning appear before the comittee was a great idea. Someone was thinking.
March 17, 200521 yr QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 09:56 AM) I thought he did. What did he say when asked what he would do if he was commish then? He wants a 1 month suspention for 1st offense.. 1 year for second.. and OUT of baseball for 3rd.
