Inside jokes.

If y'all really wanna talk s*** about something, we have 50 Cent threads around here all the time.

I didn't understand pwn at first either, but after I caught on, I didn't have much of an issue with it.  It's nerd-speak.  We're a bunch of freaking nerds on here -- don't get it twisted.

Funny that "pwned" and "50 (fiddy) Cent" get brought up together, as they seem to fit into the stupidity that is overtaking our language on a daily basis.

Ebonics was a joke, but now I am afraid "moronics" is becoming a reality.

Every generation has it's own phrases, I think it's really hip and groovy that the hip cats of today are what's happening.

Right On!

God damn hippie.

I hate the way you talk, mang!

What makes this unique is we are raising the first generation of instant communication babies. This is the first generation who are growing up with IM, message boards, and relying so heavily on written communications. It only makes sense that a unique language would develop.

Right On!

The biggest problem is that some kids get so used to it that they start turning in homework assignments with these "misspellings".

The origins of pwned have been stated in this thread. How would that qualify as "moronics"? It's an inside joke.

One could just as easily pass judgement on someone who dresses or used to dress up like a punk rocker. Ahem. ;)

That is a problem. They also start to buy lite beer.

I read an interesting article way back when regarding Sesame Street and how it negatively effected my generation because they couldn't stay focused for more than 40 seconds. TV hasn't always been helpful either.

I'm saying by it leaking out into the "real world". Net lingo is one thing, but for it to become more than that, which it more than likely will, is another thing. Problem is that this type of stuff is getting crazy. In Japan they are having problems of the youth forgetting their own language. People there have become so dependant on their internet lingo, phone lingo, and whatnot, that they have actually forgotten the symbols used in the language. Granted, there are thousands to remember, but it was never a problem until recent (very recent) years. Same thing will eventually start here, where stuff like "pwned" will become just how you spell it. It might be a little "consipracy" like and paranoid, but it fits with how the world is moving.

As for the Punk dress, I was a silly kid. But back then, even though I looked the part, I still wasn't too keen on my own age group. I felt teens were, for the most part, a bunch of friggin' idiots. :D

Yes, myself included.

It's already is here. "Lite" is used for everything. "Congradulations" for graduates. Ever see a Z on a billboard sign? How often is it put up backward like an s?

Heck, being in the "Glam" scene, I can't even count how many times I've seen "z's" replacing "s's"!!! LOL!!!
