The Vatican has not made an announcement. The news is being reported by Italian press.

Yahoo is now reporting it--but no Vatican confirmation.

What a tremendous impact he had on the world. He's home now...

Still nothing on cnn.com.

But this is nows inevitable, isn't it? There is no coming back from where he is at. Last summer when I was with my great aunt and, just before she passed, I realized that there is that certain point you hit where nothing can bring you back, no medicine can ever be created to reverse what has started. It sounds though like he is comfortable and relaxed in his last moments.

I'm not a catholic. But Pope John Paul II was a man of inspiration and dignity. He was a man to be admired.

Bells tolling at St. Peters as I type.

Bells are ringing. I think that about confirms it. RIP.

He was the only Pope of my lifetime.

Here's an excellent link for those of you interested in the selection of the new Pope and the process thereof.

Ah yes, get me on the technicality. No reason to split hairs.

Born and raised a Chicago Catholic. My faith is not to be questioned.

No intentions on my part to split hairs. I just wanted to communicate my respect for JPII.

I think you took that the wrong way.

Now CNN.com is not reporting it anymore.

Vatican sources are saying the his brain and heart are still functioning. Someone has jumped the gun, apparently.

Indeed.

No offense, this is not about me right now.

Let it go.
