Having a superstar, or the superstar, in the game come out would be great for the game and for the GLBT community at large. It's one thing to ghettoize a minor leaguer hack who bats below the mendoza line, but it would be hard to do that with someone who owns a quarter billion dollar contract.

You don't but apparently a lot of people do. Because 13 states passed constitutional amendments saying that they care "which hole you stick it in." In most states, you can be fired if you're suspected of "sticking it in the wrong hole." You also can be legally denied housing for the same reason. A gay baseball player would do a lot to make people realize that gay people aren't coming after your children or whatever the hell it is that makes them so scared of the issue.
