April 12, 200520 yr QUOTE(SoIL @ Apr 12, 2005 -> 11:37 AM) Did anyone notice we've moved from #17 to #2 in a weeks time. http://cbs.sportsline.com/mlb/powerrankings As we said when we were #17. These things are useless.
April 12, 200520 yr Thats very surprising to see them jump that far...Esp above the Red Sawks and Yankmees...Most people stroke to pick them...most important thing is though where the Sox are by late July and August to me... these polls not mean a whole hell of a lot.... April 12, 200520 yr Author QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 12, 2005 -> 10:39 AM) As we said when we were #17. These things are useless. Agreed. I was just surprised to see that big of a jump. Especially after 7 games.
April 12, 200520 yr QUOTE(SoIL @ Apr 12, 2005 -> 11:45 AM) Agreed. I was just surprised to see that big of a jump. Especially after 7 games. That is quite a stunner. You'd think that they'd give the BoSox and the Yanks a free pass cuz they were playing each other so much.
April 12, 200520 yr That's a pretty shocking jump. ESPN would never put us as high as #2 this early in the season. Maybe if we won the series they would.
April 12, 200520 yr This list is officially a piece of s***. If it had any integrity at all, a team couldn't go from 17 to 2 within the first week of the season. if the Royals had our record, would anyone consider them #2? No.
April 12, 200520 yr About the thread title, where is that quote from? I keep hearing all these references to number "(blank)" with a bullet.
April 12, 200520 yr Author QUOTE(3E8 @ Apr 12, 2005 -> 10:53 AM) About the thread title, where is that quote from? I keep hearing all these references to number "(blank)" with a bullet. I believe it comes from radio. It refers to a song climbing the charts (becoming more popular).
April 12, 200520 yr I wouldn't read a lot into this "respect" from CBS Sportsline. The Braves, White Sox and Blue Jays are leading baseball right now, but only the Braves figure to stay atop the charts. :rolly
April 12, 200520 yr QUOTE(SoIL @ Apr 12, 2005 -> 11:56 AM) I believe it comes from radio. It refers to a song climbing the charts (becoming more popular). The Weekly Top 40 show right? I can't remember who the original host of it was.
April 12, 200520 yr QUOTE(mreye @ Apr 12, 2005 -> 11:57 AM) I wouldn't read a lot into this "respect" from CBS Sportsline. :rolly yeah, they still managed to take a shot at us...f*** them
April 12, 200520 yr QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 12, 2005 -> 12:02 PM) The Weekly Top 40 show right? I can't remember who the original host of it was. Casey Kasem
April 12, 200520 yr I haven't looked at it yet but I'm guessing the Braves are #1 right now since they also have a 5-2 record. But jumping half the league surprises me too. This is baseball and it's only been one week. That'd be like winning 1 game in football and jumping half the league.
April 12, 200520 yr LOL Wasn't expecting that, the Sox coulda blown every team out and be 20-0 and I would've never guessed us to be that high. Doesn't matter though, all that does is "Just Keep Wining"
April 12, 200520 yr Author QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 12, 2005 -> 11:02 AM) The Weekly Top 40 show right? I can't remember who the original host of it was. I don't know exactly. I've heard that saying for as long as I can remember. Casey Kasem might indeed be the originator.
April 12, 200520 yr QUOTE(SoIL @ Apr 12, 2005 -> 01:07 PM) I don't know exactly. I've heard that saying for as long as I can remember. Casey Kasem might indeed be the originator. I believe the expression came from Billboard magazine.
April 12, 200520 yr Author QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 12, 2005 -> 12:09 PM) I believe the expression came from Billboard magazine. I wouldn't doubt that either. Considering Billboard was (is?) the main source for record sales (charts) information for many years. I think I read they dropped the charts a few years ago, but my memory can be faulty from time to time.
April 14, 200520 yr Wow even ESPN has us at #4 up from #22. I for one am shocked and appalled. How are we supposed to fly under the radar if everyone is ranking us so high?
April 14, 200520 yr QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 11:25 PM) Wow even ESPN has us at #4. I for one am shocked and appalled. How are we supposed to fly under the radar if everyone is ranking us so high? Make a banner that has Dimitri Young's statement about the division being decided between Detroit and Cleveland, and hang it up on the ESPN studio set. Anyways, it's clearly obvious that the Sox have been playing among the most complete games thus far, so they deserve to be where they are...
April 14, 200520 yr 19. Chicago Cubs: Aramis Ramirez and Jerry Hairston are already questioning Dusty Baker. Translation: Never doubt Steve Stone. hehe
April 14, 200520 yr Steve Stone could probably manage 5~10 more wins out of the Cubs than Dusty. Too bad he's not a "Player's Manager".
