wow, ALL of our married friends who had exchanged gifts asked us.

Most of our married friends have been married 10 to 15+ years... and the ones we know married less than that haven't asked. Is this something fairly new..??

I think so, all our friends have been married in the last 8 years or so.

I also didn't know that the groom buys gifts for all his groomsmen and the bride for the bridesmaids, did you know that?

Yea, I knew that. And for moms & dads, ring bearer, flower girl, and officiants also.

see, I didn't know any of that, so I was like 'whoa, we didn't budget for all of that.'

AND I didn't know that everyone and I mean everyone gets a tip. Limo drivers, DJ, musicians, flower arrangers, priest.....etc.

I am not sure what the heck I should be getting my parents anything. They haven't done much to help out since we got engaged. Oh well.

Yep... we figured all of that in. Luckily this isn't a huge affair so the $$ we saved on cutting the guest list down is taking care of all the extras.

Don't really know if i should be chiming in here, but i think that all the 'official' crap that you are 'supposed to do' in weddings/relationships is stupid. You're getting married...isn't that enough? Saying "oh my God you have to exchange it at the rehearsal dinner" just makes it a gift for show. What, do you need to prove something to everyone else? Didn't think so. If affordable, i would think that getting each other a little something extra would be kinda cool, and you wouldn't even have to tell anyone about it. Just something unique or cute or what not (like the packers tickets idea is kinda cool). But i don't think crap like that is necessary. Then again, i'm usually out of the loop on traditions like this anyway.

s***. I was supposed to get my In-Laws something? Man, I messed up soooo bad! LOL!!! I didn't ask permission, I didn't buy a gift, we had only been dating for 2 months when I proposed...it's a wonder they like me as much as they do! :headshake

I immediately thought of a watch.. but I got him a TAG for Christmas... I was thinking about virtual golf sessions.. which is something I know he would enjoy.

My then-fiancee' and I actually talked about what we wanted for wedding presents. That obviously takes the surprise element out of the equation, but the result was that we both got something that we really wanted. I loooove my Kenneth Cole watch.

Good luck with everything. Where are you and the hubby honeymooning?

She got me a Movado and I got her a diamond pendant to wear the day of the wedding.

I mean heck you buy gifts for everyone else at the wedding, why not buy one for the one you love.

We never discussed doing it or if we should do it or anythign like that though...

I just thought it would be cool to get her something for the day of the wedding...and then her cousin asked me before the rehersal dinner if I got her anything and I said yeah and she said oh cool cause she got you something too....We didn't do the exchange at the dinner though...we did it when it was just us two...It was about us not everyone else.

You know your siggy the best...and if they would want tickets to a game, a watch, a diamond or even nothing cause they would rather save the money and spend it somewhere else....then THAT is the RIGHT thing to do. There are no rules...you do what makes you both happy.

That's the bazillion $$ question... we're trying to decide between a cruise, Australia, or Italy...

Due to work we can't go until June so we have to make our decision within the next week so I can finalize those plans.

If its Italy, remember to wait until after the conclave concludes. :P

The plane ride is the only thing holding us back from commiting to it. The same with Italy. I bet we end up doing the cruise. 12 days... :headbang Now just have to decide which ocean to cruise on...

Yeah that's the major thing b/w here and there unfortunately. I bet you were probably looking at the Whitsundays and the Great Barrier Reef if you decided to come down here though.

Never been to Australia, but my wife went to Italy years ago and LOVED it. She'd strongly recommend Tuscany and Rome.

To be honest.. we were looking at doing absolutely nothing but laying on the beach for 10 days.

We want (need) a vacation to do nothing. Every trip we take is filled with activities. We just want to relax on this one..

Jim's mom was telling us last night that we should go because it will be so cool to be part of history.... bla.. pass.

That's my parents major attraction for buying a holiday house near the beach at the moment, doing nothing but lying on the beach. Unfortunately with the housing boom over the past 5 years, prices have gone up from $150,000 to almost double that.

Have fun on your honeymoon wherever you go and decide to do Steff. :)

I've been twice.. I loved it. Jim's never been so he's itching to go. Like I said we probably wont go now.. but definitely within 2 years because we want to take his mom and my grandmother.

Sounds awesome. My aunts (and one husband and his sister and her husband) went to Italy about 10 years ago and loved it.

We haven't any idea on where we want to go (if we take one). We are planning to go to Ireland in the next year or two, but not this fall because of limited vacation time.
