Frank has a long way to go in his rehab and I know he had yet another setback :headshake but when he finally gets back, who are you going to sit? Everett is our leading hitter, you can't sit Konerko, Podesednik, or Rowand, is their really any room for him?

I would sit down Jermaine Dye from what I have seen of him so far, I would rather have Carl in the field because of his bat. But it wouldnt be too far off to have a rotation going in the OF, with each guy taking the 4th day off.

From that it looks like it should be a classic Dye v. Lefties, Carl v. Righties platoon. Therefore, they both would be playing a good amount of time even if it wasn't a strict platoon because Everett could play LF or DH to give other players rest days.

 

If they go by the numbers, Everett should still be getting a good amount of ABs even after Frank gets back.

By the numbers, yes. In reality you will lose one or both of them and lose the whole situations. This is why successful strict platoon situations are rare

That's what I'd do as well, taking the DH into account as YASNY stated.

Keeps everyone fresh yet ready and getting regular ABs.

Precisely my thoughts. Frank is going to need rest from time to time for his ankle and so that he actually plays going into the end of the year. Rotation is the best way to not only keep us fresh but to play off the other teams lineup. Scott skiles does this for the bulls and I believe depth is underrated in terms of team strength.

What effect, if any, will this have on the chemistry everyone has?

 

I think the platoon will work best with the perception being..."we like all of you and we want everyone to play cause we value your contributions to the team"

 

If we pick one player to bench when Frank comes back....then that can affect the whole team...IMO.

 

The X factor is how will Frank feel about splitting his time when he has already missed a sigificant portion of the season??

Carl's a defensive liability in the OF (he's as slow as molasses). And I think that Dye's a better hitter, despite the fact that Carl's gotten off to a better start.

 

I'd like to see a three-day rotation where Carl would sit the first day, DH the second day, and play RF on the third. That would mean that Carl, Dye, and Frank (who needs to be worked back in slowly) would all be in the lineup two out of every three days.
