That even though the sox have won every series, the sox have always won the first 2 games and then lost the last game for the sweep. I know its still early in the season(9 games) but that is a little weird. It seems the first two games everything is working and going right, but when that third game comes around, they just can't find ways to get things to work. That is just my opinion.

Notice our best hitting lineup isn't usually out there on that 3rd day. Thats the day Oz seems to like to put the reserves in for a start. Sweeps will come soon enough, as long as we win 2 out ofevery 3, you won't see me starting a:

"FIRE/TRADE/RELEASE _________ (insert todays goat/ Joe Crede's name here) NOW before we lose another game!!"

I have also noticed something about the team.

We have the worst OBP of any team in the majors this year(.265 - which is worse then 21 other team's averages)...I believe even including this game...and yet we could very easily be 7-2 or 8-1.

So what happens when the offense starts to click?

Then the pitching starts to suck.

LOL, I kind of thought that.

I don't know if it will suck as much as it did last year...but I can't imagine it will be this solid all year long.

But at the same time:

I remember the 2000 club had a habit of consistently winning the first two games of series - that turned out ok. As long as we just keep puttering along at a .666 pace, things will be fine.

Hell like they said on last nights game... if you win 2 of 3 in every series you are well on your way to win 100 games...in which is more than enough...

I'm in favor of playing only 2 game series if that's how the Sox are going to play the series.

I think this is the biggest thing. I know Carl got hurt, but still, look at the top of the batting order we had at the end of last night's game, it was laughable.

Harris

Widger (in for Gload)

Timo (in for Carl)

It's as if Ozzie saw last night as the last 3 minutes of a 35 point basketball game and it's time to put in the last 5 guys on the bench. I see what he's trying to do, it makes sense to give guys a night off, and it makes sense to give everyone 4 ABs every now and then, but I think Ozzie overdid it a bit last night.

As long as were winning series, I'm not complaining too much. I'm much more excited about this weekend at home than I am disappointed about last night. A load of s*** went wrong last night, and the Sox still had a shot going to the 9th, oh well.

You get your wish on Monday - a 2 game set vs. the Twinks.

I was looking for this thread, I knew it was here somewhere. Not to make more than this deserves, but I think Ozzie may need to watch for some killer instinct and guard against easing up once a series is won. I think some/a lot or this is substitutions, but even that could be worrisome if we aren't deep enough to win with our B game.

Well, hold on. We lost game 3 of the season when our closer gave up 3 dingers in the ninth, the last one with 2 strikes on the potential 3rd out. We lost game 6 when we couldn't hit Santana. There's a lot of that going around. Last night was sorta substitution night, so I'll give you that one, but really it was the pitching that didn't get the job done, not the "B" team.

It's too early for any conclusions, but I don't think the losses can be blamed on Ozzie's tactics, so far.

I definately blame Oz for last night. His use of pitchers was awful. First of all, there is no way you let Hernandez start the sixth. His breaking stuff was awful, and he got bailed out the inning before by an idiot fan who touched the ball which stopped the go ahead run from scoring in the 5th.

So then he lets El Duque who has 5 walks, and only a fastball start the 6th inning, and then after he walks the leadoff guy, he goes out and calls for Cotts, who last year Oz wouldn't even let pitch with guys on base (remember he would go bring in Jackson to give up the runs) and expected him to know how to pitch out of it. Yeah OK, that makes sense.

We suck when it comes to sweeping teams... so far that is. But taking 2 out of 3 or 3 out of 4 is always a pleasure.
