May 2, 200520 yr i hate this ESPN crap they talk so much s*** about the Whitesox Quote by espn writer Rob Neyer "White Sox living charmed lifeBy Rob Neyer ESPN Insider Archive Here's why I don't believe the White Sox are the best team in the American League Central: Their pitchers obviously can't keep pitching as well as they have. Here's why I do believe the White Sox are the best team in the American League Central: Their hitters obviously can't keep hitting as terribly as they have. I haven't gone searching, but I suspect that with a few seconds of "work" I could find an editorial or three praising Ozzie Guillen for his self-described "smart ball" (which Guillen prefers to the term "small ball"). Indeed, the White Sox are tied for the league lead in stolen bases, sacrifice bunts and sacrifice flies. That's smart."
May 2, 200520 yr bumped to merge cuz some people want to keep bringing up the same old s***, even though it's completely valid and complain about it.
May 3, 200520 yr QUOTE(Texsox @ May 1, 2005 -> 09:43 AM) Maybe that's why a few Giants pitchers complained. He probably isn't always correct. This is where the manager needs to step in and make the call. I suspect Ozzie has done so with Garland and Contreras. Whatever is happening, it's working.
May 3, 200520 yr Neyer is a royals fan anyways. What do you expect. He is probably upset that he bought all those believe shirts and Limatime posters 2 years ago. He has to crap on other.

For the record, Neyer was the only ESPN writer preseason to pick the Sox to win the central.
May 3, 200520 yr I think you can over-value OPS vs for RP. It's a good stat, but the K/9 is a better indicator of who can dominate the late innings. Nathan leads the league, & Politte (surprisingly) is 2nd, with Marte in the top 10. You want dominate RP. It has a mental effect on the opposition as well as a proven track history of winning games. I think we should just enjoy the ride. It's been smooth so far. The bumps & the HR's are going to come with the warmer weather. That's inevitiable. The era's will inflate when they do. No one will care as long as we are winning. Timely outs & timely hitting will get that done.
