since we are giving advice, anything Jim H says needs to be taken with a grain of salt.

I thought that was just tequila

I happen to fall into the camp of people who are tired of the ESPN/Media threads. It is just as much my right to say that as it is for someone to make a new thread about the subject.

We joke about closing ESPN threads and such but honestly we are averse to any kind of censorship except in certain extreme situations. These include personal attacks on other posters, unauthorized advertising, or pornography. In fact, very little closing or deleting of threads goes on in the Pale Hose Talk forum.

So feel free to post a thread about ESPN every day if you feel the need. Just keep in mind that many of us have read hundreds of them already so we have an excuse to mumble and grumble once in a while.

No, but it gets really old to see one basically every day.  There is definitely a subset of Sox fans that wants to feel slighted by the media.  You need look no further than today's Mariotti thread.  Jay basically summarized our season so far and played pretty nice and we see a number of posters go off on him for slamming our team.  I guess it's just irritating to me because there are some really good fans here who really appreciate baseball, and yet it seems like half the threads that end up getting generated are about the media and "how they rip us".  I guess this is why I'm a proponent of a separate "media" or "ESPN" or "BBTN" board or some combination.

I understand it can be repetitive. But honestly, why such dislike for a topic which can easily avoided? Of the 20 threads on this board's 'Pale Hose Talk', only four (including this) are devoted to media coverage. It's hardly a problem as some make it out to be.

Usually the members creating the media threads are not the same people who repetively post on media biasm. Although recent Jabroni threads may indicate otherwise. :D It's the person turing on the TV and noticing Baseball Tonight covering our club. Or the member feeling John Kruk unfailry questioned the loyalty of our fanbase. We're slighting these members with arrogant "Who Cares?" posts.

Welcome Josh. :cheers

Another thing about Soxtalk is the the thread will sometime go wildy off-topic, as seen by you welcome turned who cares about the media thread.

Josh, pay no mind to the Prince of Darkness and Negativity.

Welcome to SoxTalk.

Welcome aboard. A word of caution; this place is rough on those who are casual fans so you better know your stuff. Don't wanna scare you off, just a warning. This place is full of guys who can drop stats on you and over exaggerate to make a point . So be prepared to lie, cheat, steal whatever it takes to hang with the big dogs. Even though the welcome thread says "personal attacks won't be tolerated " (or something to that nature). It happens all the time and the longer you have been around here seems to give you more leeway in that respect. If you say something controversial to a long time member some other long time member will be sure to remind you that because you lack the number of posts  you have no right to say anything.

Don't let any of this discourage you. Speak your mind say, what you want to say. Freedom of speech (or post) is your inalienable right. If you spend any amount of time here at all , you will be amazed at how heated some of the discussions get over the simplest things. If there is a level above diehard  this has to be the place for it.

But ,overall, if you're a Sox fan this is a great place to be. Intelligent and passionate people abound here  side by side with egomaniacs and buffoons.

Don't worry I know my s***.

I agree.

Even though the board allows everyone to speak their minds, which means people can post about the media, espn, and attendance while others can complain that they're tired of seeing them (while exaggerating how many turn up), it looks bad on the part of the complainers...

I have been here for 5 months and enjoy reading the boards every day. It's great to know there are other people who really bleed with the Sox fortunes.

Oh and if you really want to ingratiate yourself to the veterans here, just start a thread ripping fans for not coming to games.

They said that fans should check out Soxtalk.com and whitesoxinteractive.com.  They said that they were cool sites and had a ton of smart fans on them.  I think it was Wilsy who mentioned it last year towards the end of the year.

Very cool...Welcome Aboard, always great having another Sox fan on board :cheers :cheers

Welcome to SoxTalk Josh! :cheers :gosox1: :snr
