May 15, 200520 yr QUOTE(Winnin Ugly @ May 15, 2005 -> 02:54 PM) N Shimizu one of the top pitchers in Japan would like to join the Whitesox next year to play with his buddy Tadahito Iguchi QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ May 15, 2005 -> 02:55 PM) Position? Beats me.
May 15, 200520 yr QUOTE(jackie hayes @ May 15, 2005 -> 10:56 AM) Beats me. Whoops.....must have overread that. Well..........releiver or starter?
May 15, 200520 yr QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 15, 2005 -> 10:58 AM) If only it was Daisuke Matzusuka. He has never had an era over 3.97! He has a 3.24 career ERA and eats innings alive!
May 15, 200520 yr Ok here's the article I think; The next two free-agent classes are not particularly strong, especially in young pitching. So do not be surprised to see MLB turn East for answers. The Padres, for one team, are not hesitating. Two of their top executives, Randy Smith and Fred Uhlman, were in Japan last week to see Seibu Lion ace Daisuke Matsuzaka, who is possibly Japan's best pitcher and likely to be posted after the season. Chiba Lotte ace Naoyuki Shimizu, Hanshin starter Kei Igawa and Yakult lefty reliever Hirotoshi Ishii are also pitchers who may try to come to the U.S. next year and have drawn interest of the Padres and others.
May 15, 200520 yr Here's the guy's page of Japanese Baseball, 10-11 last season with a 3.40 ERA, 126/42 K/BB ratio. http://www.japanesebaseball.com/players/pl...p?PlayerID=1193
May 15, 200520 yr Shimizu currently has 2.72 ERA and is 4-2 in 7 games. Matsuzaka with 1.77 ERA and 3-4.

May 15, 200520 yr QUOTE(3E8 @ May 16, 2005 -> 01:02 AM) Shimizu currently has 2.72 ERA and is 4-2 in 7 games. Matsuzaka with 1.77 ERA and 3-4. And he lost 2 nights ago giving up 1 ER, 4 BB's and 7 hits over 8 innings. Certainly, signing Iguchi and Shingo has opened doors for us in Asia, and really is going to give us multiple options on the trade front too.
May 15, 200520 yr QUOTE(3E8 @ May 15, 2005 -> 11:02 AM) Shimizu currently has 2.72 ERA and is 4-2 in 7 games. Does he get run-support from his offense? Shoot, he's probably better than what Freddy has been doing this season.
May 15, 200520 yr Winnin ugly post the article if you seen it. If we cant find and your one saying it then why dont you post it.
May 15, 200520 yr QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ May 16, 2005 -> 01:03 AM) Beat you to it! Rand McNally slowed my post down.
May 15, 200520 yr QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ May 16, 2005 -> 01:05 AM) Does he get run-support from his offense? Shoot, he's probably better than what Freddy has been doing this season. You wouldn't have been saying that about Freddy before his previous 2 outings.
May 15, 200520 yr QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 15, 2005 -> 10:06 AM) You wouldn't have been saying that about Freddy before his previous 2 outings. I don't think it should be said ever.
May 15, 200520 yr QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 15, 2005 -> 11:06 AM) You wouldn't have been saying that about Freddy before his previous 2 outings. Very true.....but he's blown 2 straight 3-run leads...
May 15, 200520 yr Author Bobby Valentine's Chiba Lotte Marinees are 28-11 and in first place. Naoyuki Shimizu, the Marines' ace, has been cozying up to agent Don Nomura and telling folks he'd like to join Tadahito Iguchi with the White Sox next year. Hard-throwing righthander Daisuke Matsuzaka of Seibu, scouted this week by Kevin Towers and Fred UhlmanJr. of the Padres will be the most sought-after Japanes import this winter.

That is some good news. Hopefully we may be able to get him for a discount, like we did for Iguchi. But really for this to happen, we'll have to move one of our starters, most likely Contreras. And then B-Mac is going to have to wait for another season, unless the Sox decide to move him into long relief like Neal Cotts to give him experience at the major league level.
May 15, 200520 yr QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 15, 2005 -> 11:08 AM) Here's a picture of Shimizu's delivery; Kinda similar to Shigatoshi hasegawa from Seattle.
