Phoenix, Arizona

Featured Replies

I may be actually heading to the States in about a month. My Dad has a work contract over in Phoenix, Arizona for a few months, and hopefully I'll be able to go for a few weeks after exams (Jason's already offered to chauffeur me around Los Angeles ). Just wondering, to anyone who's actually been there before, what are the sights to see, and anything you could recommend to do would be helpful.

From my limited experience, Phoenix is a pretty boring city. However, Arizona has all kinds of neat things to see, especially if your a nature fan. Grand Canyon is the obvious first choice, the Joshua Tree National Forest is really cool, but you'd only want to spend a few minutes there. Hoover dam isn't too far away, Vegas is a reasonable drive from there.

If only I was 21. :crying

I agree, you gotta be a very specific kind of person to live in and enjoy Arizona. If you're city guy, who likes the people and noise and atmosphere and the hustle and bustle, you might not enjoy it.

If you liked the desert, rocks, scenery, tranquility and limited nightlife, it's for you.

Phoenix bored me to hell. However, Sedona is really an amazing place. Look up Sedona, Arizona online and really consider the drive. It's simply amazing.

Excuse me, I only live 20 minutes away from Melbourne. It's not like I'm living in the outback with a big campfire going every - day. :P

Look at this way, people retire in Arizona.

The up side is you're not that far from Mexico, California or Vegas.

I don't even know if I would be able to drive over there considering I'm still on my Probationary License down here (when you get your license, you have your P's for 3 years, then you get your full driver's license).

I don't think he can if it's a rental car.. unless he drives without telling them. Check the rental agreements (I think you can view one online). I think for those from outside the US you must have an equal to a DL here that allows you to drive alone.. which could mean that if you can't drive alone there.. you can't drive alone here.

...not only that; I'm pretty sure you need to be at least 21 years of age to drive a rental.

That's what I've heard briefly, but I'll have to check it out in more detail.

My Phoenix experiences were mostly limited to bars, so I guess that doesn't help. There is a restaurant called Chuey's that has some damn good homemade salsa. There is also a zoo there somewhere, but I was unimpressed.

........and you're young, you'll get a slap on the wrist and have a good story that you can exaggerate all you want when you get back for the ladies.
