mreye
What a bunch of morons. This is a breath of fresh air, FWIW: In resigning, David Larkin, executive director of the Atlanta Area Council, said he was "deeply disappointed both personally and professionally" and took fully responsibility for the false records. "As scout executive of the Atlanta Area Council, I am charged with overseeing all activities of the organization. When those activities do not reflect the principles and integrity of the Boy Scouts of America, at any level, I take full responsibility," he said. Rex Kickass
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 11:32 AM) Wow, even in disgrace the boy scouts have more class than just about any politician. This is not a big surprise. Units pad numbers all the time to stay afloat. Having been involved on a council level, I know that there are lots of ghost scouts around... as to whether or not they're used for grant funding on a regular basis, I have no idea. But I do know that my troop registered kids that were in their mid 20s when I was a scout, and so did most of the other troops in my area. Texsox
I can say that in my 12 years as a volunteer, I have ever seen it in either Council I have been involved in. The closest situation is when a Scout shows up and pays his annual registration fee and then decides that Scouting isn't for him. While he has stopped attending Troop meetings, his membership has been paid and he is entitled at any time to start attending again. Those kids are left on the roster until their membership expires. We have also done membership events and signed kids up and assigned them to units. It is up to those unit volunteers to follow up and make certain the kids are attending. It would be impossible for the paid staff to follow up on hundreds of boys.
