The site of those drawings is a very, very remote region of Peru. I believe you'd have to cross a mean desert to get there. This is why you only get overhead shots from a helicopter. Plus, I think they're actually huge. The theory is that they were landing strips for vessels. The picture of the alien actually appears to be waving out into space.
