I heard this on the post-game show last night:

The 1984 Detroit Tigers came out of the gates in a very similar fashion, only to go on and win the World Series.

I'm not saying...I'm just saying.

They were 30 games over after 40 games. Nothing similar about it.

And IIRC 3 of those losses were put on the Kitties by our beloved southsiders...

But that is neither here nor there, this thread is all about basking in the glory that has been our first 70 games. B)

There's no way in hell that any of us could or would have predicted the sox would be 48-22 after 70 games. 40-30 AT BEST is what I would have thought.

But, 26 games above .500 and a nine game lead after 70 games...

sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet...

No, they lost to KC to go 9-1. Then they lost Cleveland to go 16-2. Boston beat them two days in a row to "drop" them to 19-4, and then a loss to California made them 26-5.

For the other 90% of the posters here who aren't old farts ( :P )

2001 Mariners after 70 games: 53-17

1998 Yankees after 70 games: 51-19

When the season's over. :P

This reminds of the old joke "How far can a Dog run into the woods?"

Halfway. Because then he is running out of the woods.

I would guess the White Sox's start would be up to the 82nd game of the season, because after that they would be finishing the rest of the season.

Is there an easy way of getting these data - or did you go year by year through baseball-reference.com (or retrosheet) to turn this up. I did this on my blog, and had to go year by year.
