Sportsnite piece on the Sox last night

Featured Replies

I don't know if anyone saw it, but it was actually quite good. Yes, a positive piece on the White Sox!!! They first had Carlos Lee talk about the team, then Konerko Talk about Lee, then Pods talk about how he has so much respect for the organization and its fans because he had no idea he'd ever beat out people from New York. Then Mr. Bandwagon jumper himself, Peter Gammons, talked about how little kids should look at the Sox and how they play as a team. They are doing everything right. He also gave credit to what the Sox did after the Lee/Pods trade. He said he talked to Ken Williams right after the trade and Williams said he wasn't done with this yet. And how they got AJ, Iguchi, and Hermanson because they freed up money. My only question is how come this wasn't talked about when it happened???? All the ESPN guys said what a horrible trade it was for the Sox cause Lee was a perenial all-star. Now they are giving Williams props???? I hate to scratch my head with positive publicity, just because we don't get much, but it makes me think that these guys really do know whats going on, but care more about the story at the time then the truth.

its how it is. come on i mean they are gonna call it like they see it. at first they didnt see it as a good trade, or the sox as a good team. now they do. of course they are gonna flip flop like that. yes they were wrong about this team in the first place, but dont slam them for changing their minds now, because now they realize that the chisox are good. good lord, people on this message board will go to any length toj ust complain about something. at first people complain that media bashed the trade. now that they give it some credit you wanna go and say that the media is hypocritical. no. they were wrong, realized their mistakes, and now say what is truly correct. if you are gonna bash, bash for being wrong, not for "jumping on the bandwagon" sheesh

Analysts like Gammons and BBTN crew are paid to voice their opinions on national TV. Sometimes those opinions change over time, so of course they are going to flip flop and sometimes or even often be wrong.

Dave "Soup" Campbell aka Dumbass still thinks the Angels are the best team in the Al in the 1st hald. f***ing idiot...

Agreed. Nothing, to me, is worse than when someone like Mariotti keeps looking for negatives in a story like the Sox this year.

Who knows, in the long run, maybe this will be a terrible trade for the Sox. I like the direction they are going (in terms of D, speed, and pitching), though.

This may also be a terrible trade in the long run for the Brewers, as they only have Lee under contract (team option) in 2006, and it's hard to believe that if he puts up numbers like this year in 06 as well, the Brew Crew will be able to sign him. Therefore, they'll have exactly 1 year in which to make a run at the playoffs with Lee, and then they'll lose him.

when in this country did it become a crime for people to change their minds?

i mean, i don't want to defend a lot of these guys, but they are paid for instant analysis and anyone who has to analyze anything immediately is likely going to have a different view a few months down the road.

besides, it's not like their flip-flopping on abortion or the death penalty. it's a game, an important one to many of us but a game nonetheless.

Carlos will probably be a Yankee before long especially if his price tag is high enough for the Boss. Carlos Lee was a heckuva player for the Sox and improved every year, but it has worked out well tradewise or both teams. I am still waiting for the Viz to come through consistently. And I don't mean consistently bad.

He has already accomplished that.

...and the Brewers aren't making any runs at the playoffs in the near future with that pitching staff of theirs.

I don't think you can say this will turn out to be a bad trade for the Brewers even if they do lose Lee after 2006. Prior to Lee's arrival they got next to nothing media coverage. Even with Pods stealing bases .. who knew about it? Who knew anything about Pods in 2003?

If your measuring their stature as marquee players Lee is a LOT closer to that mark than Pods ever will be. So if nothing else the Lee trade energized the Brewer fan base. Even if that energy only lasts 2 yrs it's enough to build on. The gate alone might give them the ability to sign some of their other stars long term. Something I doubt they could do w/out Lee's arrival.

These assholes will never admit to making a mistake. They're like flighty little middle school girls. Oh my, now they have a crush on the White Sox. :finger to Gammons and co
