Move the fences back

Featured Replies

Am I the only one who's getting a little tired of the constant home run-fests at the Cell? Manny's opposite field shot tonight just fired me up. It's so rare that a guy "just misses" in our park. A "just miss" in most other parks is gone at the Cell. Considering that we are now a pitching-and-defense oriented team, I think this is very important. If they can't physically move the fences back (because of the bullpen cafe or whatever) then what about moving home plate up about 10 feet or so? I'd hate to see pitchers not want to come here - a la Coors Field - because it's such a bandbox.

Considering we score a lot of our runs at home because of the homer, that might not be a very good idea.

Helps alot more than hurts Manny is a beast anywhere

I hear what you guys are saying, I am just concerned that pitchers won't want to come here (or re-sign here).

The Cell is called Coors Field East by some. It seems that when the weather warms up the ball really flies out of there. I heard that with the redesign of the park it would be hard to move the plate or the fences more than a few feet but I say do it. If you want to play Ozzie ball then let the park play to your strengths.

Nope. The longball has benefitted us the most. Without it, this team would be averaging 0.68 runs at the Cell. That's not much of hyperbole either. Corpseball is officially back in season.

Last year it seemed like it was a serious problem. This year it hasnt been 2 bad and like it was said b4 Manny is just a beast.

Wouldn't moving the plate up make the field smaller?
