July 25, 200520 yr QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 01:25 AM) I've seen them, you've seen them. I don't remember the exact games. He can't because he is pulling it out of his ass trying to look for something to worry about
July 25, 200520 yr QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 08:11 PM) Hermanson has been anything but overpowering when converting his saves. He has been fortunate so far on at least 5 or 6 occasions that that defense has bailed him out. Hermanson is not an 'overpowering' type of pitcher. His is, howver, effective. That's what matters.

July 25, 200520 yr I only see a couple games in that where he was the "closer" Coming in during a tie game, blowout (to get some work), or more than one inning during a tie game in extra innings. Those don't count. There are many closers, including Eric Gagne, who do not perform well in non-save situations.
July 25, 200520 yr Author My premise was that he was performing lower than a true closer should. I was just giving pitching examples.
July 25, 200520 yr QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 07:13 AM) My premise was that he was performing lower than a true closer should. I was just giving pitching examples. Here are a selected games of Billy Wagner, a fantasy of many here. 2 hits and a WP http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/gameLog?gameId=250416122 Blown Save 1 hr http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/gameLog?gameId=250506116 Couple hits, couple runs http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/gameLog?gameId=250515122 Blown Save 1 Hr http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/boxscore?gameId=250524128 2 hits, 1 HBP, 1 inherited runner score, 1 earned run http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/gameLog?gameId=250605122 See you can do that with anyone.
July 25, 200520 yr QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 08:11 AM) Hermanson has been anything but overpowering when converting his saves. He has been fortunate so far on at least 5 or 6 occasions that that defense has bailed him out. Your beef with Hermanson seems to be when he comes in for non-save situations. I agree, he has been extremely subpar in his outings where the pressure wasnt on, and has given up hits and runs. But to his credit, he has gotten the job done 23 out of 24 times this year when it has mattered.
July 25, 200520 yr Hermanson is doing a tremendous job as a closer but I still think a trade for a Billy Wagner would put us over the hump. So this way if we trade Marte we would definately be upgrading with Wagner. Marte has had his struggles one day looking like the left handed phenom from 03 and another day looking like garbage. He is too inconsistent. But we got the luxury to trade Marte because Politte and Cotts have been nothing short of tremendous for us. Plus no one knows when Hermanson's back will start acting up. Except that Wagner is officially off the market since the Phillies feel they are in it.
