We were sitting in Nayeb restaurant in central Tehran. I’d been holding a piss through the hours of prayer service. So after I ordered my lunch, I excused myself to the men’s room. “Men’s” was written in Farsi above, and “Manly” in English below. I stepped into the water closet, grateful to just have to piss. If I’d had more serious business there, it would’ve been a squat job with no hook for one’s jacket. Now, that would’ve been manly.

 

Now there is a fine representative and intellectual for our country. It took me a few to realize that this was actually the artist himself writing. Surely he could find a better way of discussing this?

What I found interesting Kid was the lack of anti-American language in his article. I'm not certain where the comparison to Jane Fonda and Viet Nam fits in all this unless there was some more information out there.

 

Freedom of speech should be encouraged, not slammed.

And I am definitely having trouble seeing the parallel between him hanging out with Iranian civilians (dare I say Ahkmed Q. Public) there and Jane Fonda's activities in Vietnam with soldiers.

Well as someone who "gasp" has travelled for the better part of 6 years all over the world for work I can say that my travels have depened my respect for the "eroding" freedoms that you talk about. My few trips to mainland China and a few other not so "open" places in this world left me with new found respect and love for this country.

Yeah and some of you will give anyone a pass as long as they are aligned with the anti-US "DEATH TO AMERICA" crowd. If he has a problem with the Iraq war then thats fine. I think the guy is the best actor in his age group, period. I don't care what his politics are. I'm a Sean Penn fan because he is amazing at what he does for a living. His views are no less valid or important than anyone else's. He's a frickin actor, not an elected official.
