August 23, 200520 yr Wow, Bush really is efficient. I didn't even notice when the war w/ Iran started!
August 23, 200520 yr Wow. A Hollywood anti-war activist went to a foreign country! That automatically means he's anti-American. Some of you are really big softheaded boobs. Jesus H. Christ. And unlike a lot of people (Bush, Cheney, Wolfowitz etc.), at least he had the balls to go into a country where it is a warzone when he went into Iraq where it wasn't all protected etc.
August 23, 200520 yr QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 09:47 AM) http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c...DDGVUEAQRL1.DTL I've been reading his story. We were sitting in Nayeb restaurant in central Tehran. I’d been holding a piss through the hours of prayer service. So after I ordered my lunch, I excused myself to the men’s room. “Men’s” was written in Farsi above, and “Manly” in English below. I stepped into the water closet, grateful to just have to piss. If I’d had more serious business there, it would’ve been a squat job with no hook for one’s jacket. Now, that would’ve been manly. Now there is a fine representative and intellectual for our country. It took me a few to realize that this was actually the artist himself writing. Surely he could find a better way of discussing this? Edited August 23, 200520 yr by Kid Gleason
August 23, 200520 yr What I found interesting Kid was the lack of anti-American language in his article. I'm not certain where the comparison to Jane Fonda and Viet Nam fits in all this unless there was some more information out there. Freedom of speech should be encouraged, not slammed.

Unless you count her Vietcong bodyguards. Here is note that Sean wrote the South Park creators for the movie Team America. "You guys are talented young guys, but alas, primarily young guys," Penn wrote in a letter to the South Park creators. "It's all well to joke about me or whomever you choose. Not so well to encourage irresponsibility that will ultimately lead to the disembowelment, mutilation, exploitation and death of innocent people around the world." Wow, a satire movie is made with puppets that automatically means that people are going to die and get diemboweled.

My premise was that all the war hawks decrying him (and her) for doing what they did -- while it was shady what Jane did, at least she was closer to Vietnam than most of the chickenhawks that are whining about her. And I don't need to defend his statement but I'm glad that at least some people are *gasp* going to another country and experiencing what it is like rather than simply sitting behind a computer mindlessly saying "USA! USA!" as government further erodes our rights.

August 23, 200520 yr QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 10:55 AM) That's all well and fine, but I still think the guy is an arrogant asshole. He may be stupid but at least he wants to learn things. And I am definitely having trouble seeing the parallel between him hanging out with Iranian civilians (dare I say Ahkmed Q. Public) there and Jane Fonda's activities in Vietnam with soldiers.

Well as someone who "gasp" has travelled for the better part of 6 years all over the world for work I can say that my travels have depened my respect for the "eroding" freedoms that you talk about. My few trips to mainland China and a few other not so "open" places in this world left me with new found respect and love for this country.

If he has a problem with the Iraq war then thats fine. My problem is when he starts associating himself with the very same type of people who are killing people indiscriminantely all over the Middle East. But I forgot APU. Killing innocent people is ok with you just so long as it isin't the United States that does it.

At least Cheney and whoever else didn't provide aid and comfort to the enemy with their actions. :rolly You want to praise people who are "*gasp* going to another country and experiencing what it is like rather than simply sitting behind a computer mindlessly saying "USA! USA!"" then praise Servicemen and women who are putting their lives on the line rather than some f***ing b**** like Jane f***ing Fonda. Oh wait. I forgot. In your f***ed up mind those who serve their country are "idiots" while those who s*** all over America every chance they get while hipocritically enjoying its benefits are "enlightened". You're f***ed up in the head man. Edited August 23, 200520 yr by NUKE_CLEVELAND
August 23, 200520 yr I think the guy is the best actor in his age group, period. I don't care what his politics are. I'm a Sean Penn fan because he is amazing at what he does for a living. His views are no less valid or important than anyone else's. He's a frickin actor, not an elected official.

Its a wider point that Im trying to make here though. I know he's just an actor and I know his dissent against the war doesn't mean anything but treason is treason, it doesn't matter how famous or anonyamous you are.
