August 27, 200520 yr In 2 years; If the father of unsigned draft pick Jordan Danks gets his wish, the White Sox will draft his son again in two years. John Danks Sr. said Jordan, one of the top high school players selected in the 2005 draft, has reaffirmed his commitment to the University of Texas and will attend fall classes on Wednesday. The Sox, well aware of Danks' commitment to the Longhorns, drafted him in the 19th round and stayed in contact with the family throughout the summer. But Danks, a 6-foot-5-inch, left-handed-hitting center fielder, already has moved into a campus dormitory and attended a freshman orientation session held by the Texas athletic department on Friday. "It had nothing to do with the Sox," the elder Danks said. "He just wanted to play for the University of Texas before playing pro ball. "My hope is that he enjoys a couple of years at UT before getting drafted by the White Sox. I love the White Sox. I hope they play in the World Series." If Major League Baseball elects to push the amateur draft from early June to July, Danks Sr. said his son could be eligible for the 2007 draft because his son will turn 21 within the 45-day window for college sophomores to be eligible.
August 27, 200520 yr My read of that was that they were saying "nice" things about the Sox while rejecting the Sox. Kind of like turning down someone you don't want to go out with based on the fact that you are "kind of" seeing someone else. We'll see how good he does at Texas. . .
August 27, 200520 yr Its nice to see a kid sticking with his moral compass. Good luck Danks, I'll be sure to have a softspot for the kid no matter where he ends up. Hopfully class and honesty take him somewhere.
August 27, 200520 yr They are like the exact opposite of the Benson's Good writeup and its something I like seeing. I think Danks is gonna be a very very high pick though, but who knows. The guy has some serious tools.
September 1, 200520 yr Absolutely TexSox... 6th Street in Austin is definitely THE place to be up there...and I'm only 45 minutes away from my house.
