September 16, 200520 yr Sun-Times had a headline and called him Taguchi. What a crappy paper. Anyone think he could be unhappy enough with this situation of constant unnecessary rest, giving up at-bats (while lesser hitters swing for the fences) and generally poor use of his abilities that he may think of staying in Japan. We didn't really trip over ourslves to bring him in and he is the biggest (and only) clutch hitter on this team. Think he could pull a Hasegawa? If so we always have Willie. Not to mention the release of Shingo wasn't handled to well if in fact there was no room made for him with the Knights. I am not even looking at the current state of affairs in the pennant race when I say this. Although he was the only really offensive force in both games, he broke the ice against JP Howell. September 16, 200520 yr I want him batted 3rd for awhile. I think he really wants to try it. He may sound greedy but he did not come over to America to move the runner over. He came to move the runner to home.
September 16, 200520 yr Ozzie is just being a jerk with Iguchi. He is the team's most clutch, consistent hitter this year and I can't remember him playing more than 4 games in a row.
September 16, 200520 yr He's probably the only guy on this team with the tools to be a #2 hitter. It's just sad that the people below him are not getting it done lately. I know he's much more than a #2 hitter, but will we ever see him bat 3rd, 4th or 5th on the White Sox? I'm leaning towards no.

Stop f***ing resting your horses Ozzie. What are you going to rest them for, the offseason. We need to play our best guys and f***ing win. Gooch needs to play every single day until we clinch. End of f***ing story.

Yeah, which is why a guy like Bill Mueller who could hit in the #2 spot, becomes a really important target in the off-season.

Having a prototypical number 2 hitter doesnt matter any more. We are playing station to station baseball. Pods gets thrown out trying to steal, there is no hit and runs, no bunts. So you could literally put anyone in the 2 hole now. I would put Uribe in the 2 hole, Gooch in the 3, Kong in the 4 hole and Everett in the 5. That would score some runs.

I think that change should have been made quite a while ago, but we can't really say the offense was as much of a problem as earlier in the season too. It's the pitching, hands down.
September 16, 200520 yr QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 16, 2005 -> 08:35 AM) You've come around on Uribe there Irish? I think that change should have been made quite a while ago, but we can't really say the offense was as much of a problem as earlier in the season too. It's the pitching, hands down. After Hrniak worked with Uribe and got his new trigger working, I am at lot happier with Uribe. I liked Hrniak's approach when he was our hitting coach, and a lot of people hated him because he was more of a line drive guy and didnt help the power game too much. Gooch can give us consistancy in the 3 hole, and I think that with the way Pods is no longer stealing bases it doesnt matter having a guy behind him that can take pitches. I agree with you about the pitching. I made a comment a month ago, that if our hitting would keep us from advancing in the playoffs and that I didnt think our pitching would falter. Now I may have to revise that statement. Ozzie needs to play his best players. Our pitchers need to pitch aggressively. And Bmac needs to be in this rotation. I still think the 6 man rotation would help the most as it would give an extra day of rest to an already tired pitching staff.
September 16, 200520 yr Maybe Iguchi gets so much down time, because in the " immoral " words of Oz, "he is not one tough Venezuelan". You know those Japanese can't tough it out. Ichiro probably gets 30-40 games off per season( interject sarcasm qualifier here ). Gotta get PT for Pablo and Willie, right??????? Ozzie shouldn't think. Anytime he does, we lose.

He appears to have figured it out..I'd consider replacing Podsednik with him right away.
September 16, 200520 yr I don't agree with it, but I believe Ozzie has been 'resting' Iguchi lately because of his poor defensive showings.
