Mrocks24
This guy was the worst possible guy to bring up to the plate w/ the bases loaded. He makes borchard look like an allstar
Texsox
Ozzie could have put AJ in, but Detriot had a lefty warming up and wasting 3 guys in that spot would have been stupid as well.
Mrocks24
Timo is the person that should have been in for that situation, he hasn't played in like 3 weeks but he is mr. clutch

LVSoxFan
I for the life of me could not understand what he was doing up there with his .183 average. I can't remember: was he pinching for Ozuna? If so, why? I'll take Ozuna anytime over this scrub. If it wasn't Ozuna, there's about five guys I'd rather see than Blum in the clutch. Yeesh. That was PAINFUL. There gonna need Noah's Ark to pick up all the men we've left stranded on base this year. 12 last night. That is unbearable. 1549
I don't think Blum deserves the blame for this one. Too many runners were stranded in the game to point the finger at Blum's gidp.

I was glad to hear Hawk and DJ comment on how good of a job Borchard did during his AB, getting solid wood on the ball on a tough pitch on the outside corner. Of course that came after 5 minutes of fore shadowing excuses. How difficult it is, etc.

When Blum stepped up they both fell silent, I think they were both shocked that he was batting in that situation.

The Ginger Kid
sounds like even the other players questioned Ozzie's logic: "We had a guy at the plate (Blum) who hadn't played in a while with the bases loaded," said Jermaine Dye, who flied to center with the tying run at second to end the game. "That's pretty tough on him to go up there and try to come up with a hit." Guillen said he used Blum, who hadn't played since going 0-for-4 on Sept. 18 and had only three previous pinch-hit appearances, because he was a switch-hitter and Guillen thought the Tigers would employ a left-handed reliever if he used A.J. Pierzynski as a pinch-hitter. But even Blum admitted he might have been rusty. "What people don't realize is the actual speed of the game," Blum said. "It's tough to get back in a rhythm and get used to it. It might be the toughest thing. Add a pennant race on top, the bases loaded on top, down but two runs and a chance to push a run across the plate …" :headshake

TheBigHurt
Had I been eating something when Blum came up to bat yesterday, I would have choked(no pun intended). I realize we did NOT play well yesterday, but IMO Ozzie just threw the game away. 1 out, bases loaded, 8th inning, and who gets sent in? No, not Timo. No, not AJ. It was Geoff Blum. I really hate to say this, but I think that was the worst decision I've ever seen a manager make. Maybe this is just a bit of venting from someone who watched the Sox get near dominated by a pitcher with 5 straight losses, with an ERA of about 8 over that span. But in any case, regardless of how we played yesterday, WTF was Blum doing at the plate? Hell, I'd rather see Widger stay in there that Blum get dragged to the plate. What, do you WANT us to lose, Ozzie? Ok stupid question, I know you don't, but it actually seems that way.
southsider2k5
I guess the Blum thread 10 posts down wasn't good enough to rant in, huh?
elrockinMT
I have nothing against Blum other than he can't hit, but I was surprised that the Red Sox got Tony Graffanino and we weren't even in that hunt that I know of. I think Tony is more of the Sox type mold.
