I'm not trying to be negative I just would like to know if anybody is concerned about Jenks not being able to throw his curve for a strike. He did a good job yesterday, took care of business no doubt. I just worry a lil' bit that he's becoming a 1 pitch pitcher....and I also know if he can find his "Mike Sweeney sit your ass down" curve ball he'd be damn near unhittable.

 

I guess I just prefer an easy 1-2-3 inning. lol

He couldn't throw a curve that day, it happens. Didn't he have it working only a few games before that? Most likely just some postseason jitters.

I just posted about this in another thread. Bobby's mechanics were a little out of whack at a couple of points last night. But the good news, that 1st playoff game is out of the way, and hopefully he can settle down and be exactly like the pitcher we saw when he 1st came up.

 

At least he got the job done though. Of course my motto's been for the majority of the season, don't care how you look, don't care if you win 1-0, just win damnit.

Yeah I hear ya, I didn't want to come off as being negative... I'm freakin' pumped like a mofo right now wish they were playing today. Jenks's curve has been a concern for a couple weeks now...didn't throw it v the Indians at the Cell.

He wasn't throwing any for strikes, but I was suprised none of the Boston hitters chased any, they all started right down the middle and sharply dropped off. I wonder if he was tipping his pitches a little.

he may be tipping the curve. He needs to throw 2 curves, 1 for a strike and the sharp one that falls off the table. I think his arm angle is different on them lately. Im sure Coop will let him know. He has a change and a slider anyway, so he will be fine.

Actually he did throw it during the Cleveland series and it was working pretty good. Not the best though. Im not worried, the kid has to have a lot going through his mind. I wouldnt be surprised to see it getting better after last nights performance though. That should give him some confidence.

Well he did throw it in the Monday game in the dirt, but didn't throw it after that...at least not to THAT batter when it called for it. I just think his curve is a lil' more shaky than it should be.....

Jenks curve is like Wakefield's fastball. As long as he throws it near the strike zone, it'll keep hitters off balance.

 

But, did you see those two inside fastballs to Johnny "Unfrozen Caveman Center Fielder" Damon? They just disappeared. Made him look bad. I love it.

As long as he's throwing it down I don't care. Hangers are the problem. The Red Sox hitters are usually patient and with Jenks they probably wanted to wait back on the fastball which helped them see the curve. As long as it's biting it'll be okay.

I'm not sure that he was tipping his pitches so much as Boston hitters were recognizing his curve ball and their game plan was simply to take it. If he gets it over, they are cooked.

 

Jenks did get squeezed on at least one curve ball, but definitely never got it over for a strike.

 

The Red Sox strategy of taking Jenks' curve is important information for AJ to have. I'd have him set up for Jenks to throw a couple of curves for strikes on pitch-1 or pitch-2 of an at bat so the Red Sox have to respect the curve. Then you can throw a filthy one in the dirt on a 1-2 count for the K.

 

The encouraging thing is that Jenks threw two shutout innings against the Red Sox without having his second best pitch working. Nice.

yeah, i noticed nobody did much more than look at his curve, and if he'd had a tad more accuracy, that would have burned them. but i don't think the curve looked bad at all. in fact, it looked pretty wicked a few times, the red sox are just a patient bunch. if he gets that thing over maybe two times, nobody's hitting him the rest of the way.
