Long Term Deal for Garland?

Am I the only person here that would rather have Contreras than Teixiera? Contreras is a dominating starting pitcher, Teixiera a power-hitting first baseman. Which is more rare?

Plus, if that trade takes place, that even opens up more money to spend. So would the Sox then spend it on a starting pitcher in free agency?

Well you also have to look at it from the view that Contreras could be older than 35, and Tex is a lot younger than that and has his best years ahead of him.

As for the Sox spending money on a FA SP, unless it was A.J Burnett, I'd doubt they do it in this weak FA market. They'd probably let El Duque start.

During the off-season, I don't think that's going to happen, you're basically putting up a white flag for the season, especially if Paulie leaves as well.

Now if we're out of it at the deadline, I'd be all for a move like that.

I think if PK stays, it wouldn't happen. But if Pk left, trading Contreras could help get talent to replace PK. With the way Freddy, MB and Garland threw in the playoffs, and BMac turning it around, getting a 5th starter type, ala Danny Haren and other talent, wouldn't mean white flagging it by any means.

Oakland showed how getting younger doesn't mean getting worse
