White Sox Payroll

Featured Replies

Assuming the White Sox have a payroll of about 90 million, give or take 2-3 million.

Thinking positive, and hoping that the White Sox sign Konerko to a 4 or 5 year deal for say 12 million a season - Are the White Sox tapped out for the off-season ? Can they add anymore depth ?

Basically, what kind of shape are we in right now in regards to the payroll after taking on 7-8 million for Thome, and hopefully resigning Konerko ?

Well, we'll be paying Thome what? About $6M this year?

And let's assume we give Garland a nice 3 year deal worth $7M for next year and we give Pierz a 3 year deal worth $4M next year. Crede gets $2.5M lets say.

Without Kong that would put the teams payroll at ~ $75.475M

Then if Kong recieves about $13M next year from us that puts the payroll at ~ $88.475M

This includes payroll includes Ross Gload and excludes Timo Perez. There are also many approximations as well.

So if salaries do fall roughly where I believe they will we'll have ~ $1.5M to spend on Bench help if the Sox go with a $90M team payroll and don't end up dumping anymore players. (Marte - $2.25M next year)

This payroll includes the buyouts to Frank and Carl and is made up of 24 players. So there is one spot open.

I'm sorry, I don't know where, but I think there has to be something wrong with your math.

Carl Everett and Aaron Rowand made $6 million combined last season. That is basically exactly what Thome will make this season. Put the buyout of Carl into that...and the Thome Trade basically makes us come out completely even with last year's team.

Furthermore, we're saving $4.5 million by buying out Thomas, and we have $8.75 million or so available because of Konerko. Combine those and you can offer Konerko a decent deal including his cash and Thomas's cash and with just that our payroll should still be roughly where it was at in 2005.

The increases beyond that should be giving guys long term deals, which I could see costing us $5-$8 million, and that puts us somewhere in the low $80's.

I have everyone's '06 salaries in an Excel Spreadsheet. There's no problem in my math.

Guys under our control making >$1 mil who will get raises that aren't official yet:

Garland

Pierzynski

Crede

Vizcaino (?)

These players will make a combined figure that is closer to $16 million than your ceiling of $8 million, which would put you right at Kalapse's figure.
