Looking for ways to improve their offense, especially by stretching the field, the Bears will consider placing a claim for wide receiver Peerless Price today.

 

Price was placed on waivers Saturday by the Dallas Cowboys and will become a free agent at 3 p.m. if no team claims him. If Price clears waivers, the Bears will likely approach him, but his agent Tim McGee said multiple teams could be involved at that point.

 

"There are a couple of possibilities out there right now,'' McGee said. "We're going to sit back and relax right now. We're only looking for something long-term. There's no use right now in rushing into something that is clinically incorrect. I'm not saying that's what it would be in Chicago.''

 

Price was used sparingly in Dallas, appearing in seven games and making one start, posting six catches for 96 yards. With Patrick Crayton back from an ankle injury, Price wasn't going to be active on game days, so Bill Parcells unloaded him. It appeared he was in a tug-a-war there as owner Jerry Jones had brought him in, signing him to a contract for $1.8 million this season. Prorated, the Bears would owe him a little more than $423,000 for the final four games if they claimed him on waivers. McGee said he didn't think anyone would claim his client.

 

"We're making it clear we are not looking for a four-week job where he'll be back out on the market again,'' McGee said.

 

The Bears have been struggling for production from their No. 2 receiver for most of the season, and Price would bring speed that was missing before Bernard Berrian made a season-high three receptions for 59 yards against Green Bay. Offensive coordinator Ron Turner said he had not considered Price as a possibility.

 

"We have Bernard back and that is huge,'' Turner said. "Bernard and Justin [Gage], we feel good about them, we just have to get it clicking. Bernard gave us the needed speed element.''

 

Berrian has three receptions on the season, and Gage was shut out Sunday. He has 20 receptions for 225 yards and one touchdown.

 

Price, a seven-year veteran, didn't post the kind of numbers Atlanta envisioned when the Falcons traded a first-round pick to the Buffalo Bills for him and signed him to a $37 million deal with $10 million in bonus money in 2003. He made 109 receptions for 1,413 yards and six touchdowns in two seasons and was let go in August. Some believe Price is a secondary receiver, helped by Eric Moulds in Buffalo, where he had a breakout season in 2002 with 94 receptions for 1,252 yards and nine scores.

 

"No one has been questioning his physical skills,'' McGee said. "We thought it was a solid idea in Atlanta where they were going to turn Michael Vick into more of a passing quarterback. That didn't work and with the money he was making, we accepted it. In Dallas, the owner does one thing and the coach does something different. We've seen what he's done on the field.''

I think Price would be a good tag team with Mushin Muhammed. We didn't use Peerless at all in Dallas. I think if the Bears could get him, they'd look good.

He was still very good a few years ago in Buffalo when he was alongside Moulds as a 2nd receiver and deep threat for Bledsoe. The offense was great teh year they had him, and went into a tailspin the next year (albiet that wasn't all his fault...the O-line has been garbage for a couple years now)

Id love to see Peerless on the Bears. Hopefully they can snag him before someone else does.

If the demand he showed when he was released by Atlanta is any indication...the Bears may well have some time to sleep on it.

 

You think if he signed with the Colts, being rejoined with Peyton could help rejuvinate his career? Hell, if he was smart, he might have his agent give the Colts a call at the end of hte season and not the other way round.

If Philly spent the money on a wideout right now...how would that help them? They have no QB to get the ball to the wideout. They've basically written off this season. Why should they spend the money this year, when they could maybe just hold onto it and do some fancy cap maneuvering to find themselves more space for next year?

Thats true, i like Bradley alot... but can you ever really have enough GOOD WR's?

 

I mean how good would it look to have Price on one side, Moose on the other and Bradley in the slot or some combination of that?

 

Just more options for the 2 young qbs on this team.... maybe we dont have to draft a WR high in the draft then also...

I'd take a shot at Price. He was once very good. He hasn't done anything in Dallas though nor in Atlanta (and they need WR help, although Roddy White is looking solid).

Price is a very good #2 receiver, he was forced into a #1 situation and that has pretty much leveled off his career. He could be decent next to the Moose.

I think Price would be a huge pick up for the Bears.. they need a proven veteran and #2 reciever... He would compliment Moose big time...
