Under the radar

I was going thru the Rule V Draft Preview on Rotoworld and came across this guy:

Kevin Howard

This seems like exactly the kind of guy K-Dub would go for.

When is the Rule V draft?

When is the Rule V draft?

December 8th in Dallas.

Sox draft 29th, so I doubt Howard will last that long.

Howard has 24 errors and I don' t think he will last to the last pick in the Rule 5 draft.

Sox aren't going to take someone in the Rule V (not at the major league level).

You can always take the guy and pay 50 grand and just send him back for 25 after spring training if he can't make the bug club

If the Sox are looking to add another lefty in the pen, why not take a look at guys like Bill Murphy (Diamondbacks) or Matt Coenen (Braves)?

J.D.Martin, just by name alone, is intriguing. Does anyone know his med history???

Wasn't Billy Murphy the highly touted futures game pitcher that struggled last year? Like I said, 50G's in baseball is nothing, its just a matter of space to keep them through ST

I don't see the Rule V draft as an option after KW said he wasn't going to select anyone from that pool. If you do select someone they have to stay on the ML roster or be offered back to their original team. I think what we will see is a super sub type player being signed or traded for and most likely Tony Graffanino being the guy. I know he wants to play everyday, but he fits that supersub role so well and plays hard nosed baseball that he is more valuable playing 2B-SS-3B then any one position. He can be persuaded to sign with the White Sox as long as Boston let's him go. Mark my words... (as long as I spelled them all correctly)

We don't necessarily have to keep the guy on the major league roster. Granted I don't know all of the rules, but Houston took Will Taveras from Cleveland and payed them to keep the player. They then sent Taveras down to AA and obviously called him up for this season.

Houston had to trade with Cleveland to get the right to send Taveras down without losing him.

I thought we got Jenks from the rule 5 draft?

Waiver claim, I believe.
