Didn't see this anywhere, but Bruce was just on Carmen and Silvy and said that a source of his is reporting that Damaso Marte is on the verge of being traded today. Didn't say to who, or what we'd be getting in return. Yah, I know its Bruce. Take it for what its worth.

Brucey has been slightly more reliable this year.

Lets hope Kenny is getting someone or something or worth in this trade....Regardless how much Marte can drive you nuts he is still a fairly proven lefty reliever and they are worth quite a bit...

I noticed today that Mike Myers was declined arbitration. That plus the Marte thing has me hoping we move Marte for, well, anything useful, and then we try to sign Myers.

I think the Sox could get Myers, since he is from Arlington Heights. IMO, if the Sox are Yanks offer similar $$, then he would come home.

Everything I have heard is that Myers is still going to NY.

Isn't that about the same thing they said about getting Garcia and then the Sox out of nowhere got him....Not saying I'm just saying.

I just want to go on record and say I do not want to trade Damaso Marte. I know this isn't the popular opinion, but I feel Marte is a solid lefty out of the pen. Cotts is our number one lefty now, and Marte may make a little much for a number two lefty... but with the money that relievers are getting this offseason, I would rather hang on to Damaso than deal him.

Why is everyone so gung ho about acquiring Myers? Look at the guy's career, he is below average. Sure he can get lefties out, but you could throw an American Legion right handed batter out to face him, and he would get lit up.

Myself, I would rather keep Marte because when he is on.. he is unhittable...but he needs to keep his head outta his ass!! Not to mention there aren't too many other lefties out there that are better anyway.

Well, that won't always happen. Say we're facing a guy like Travis Hafner. You think Wedge is gonna pull Hafner if we bring in Myers? Their are many other cases like that. And if an opponent puts in a right handed batter in when Myers enters, based on Ozzie's affinity for matchups, its likely he'll pull Myers right out of there. If he's only used as a lefty specialist, I'm all for picking up Myers, if only for situations like the Hafner example I just used.

BINGO!!!! Not only that, he walks a ton of guys. He is the most aggravating pitcher to watch on our team.

 

Meyers is a LOOGY. That is the only reason we get him. He shouldn't, and most likely won't, ever face a right handed batter. We have other pitchers in the bullpen that can get both righties and lefties out. That would not be Meyers' job.
